Wall street likes him because he provides returns. Take a look at your 401K and what it invested in. It happens in every industry. Take a look at Wal-Mart. Look around the rest of the industry...Airtran, Frontier, Southwest. Southwest may have a slightly higher pay rate, but never offered a pension plan, sub-par benefits, and asks a lot more of you than DL or AA for example. Look at a simple stat...WN carries more people than any other carrier...I'm betting they have less agents working gates. ow do they do that? They're not super human. They are just expected to get it done because that's what makes the company work.

He sticks it to his best customers, too. The big difference is he and his team LIES directly to his employees...at least with the customers, we hear his lies through the media because his team doesn't usually care enough to respond to inquiries.

It cracks me up that people think he is doing such a great job. How could US not be making money now? They charge some really outrageous fares and they pay their employees crap???? With a route structure that the East has, the airline was destined to be profitable...how come the West side isn't as profitable...he's had time to work his magic there much longer. Doug and his amateur team are not superheros.

I had two ticket agents say to me recently, with the fares we charge you guys and what we give your for those fares, how can we not make money. Of course, I gave them an A&B for understanding the real story.

Has Mr. Parker forgotten who makes these great returns possible? Judging from the pay at US Airways, i'd say its not exactly on the front burner for him. Yet, somehow, he managed to find about $8 billion for Delta.

Are the Unions over there really that weak?

Who cares about Wall Street?? I assume your 401k is not self directed... Are you aware of the employee pay and benefits at the companies your invested in? I doubt it. Welcome to the jungle my friend!!

From an investment point of view, I wonder if Wall Street wants to invest (as in exit funding for a stand alone Delta) if thier paying at or above market rates?

Until your airline exits, in whatever form that is, I would'nt be signing for any more personal assets that require monthly payments. Just some advice from a bad speller(sp).

There was once a person in a management station position, with experience on the corporate side, who flew to Tempe to interview for a management job -- coming in as the recommended candidate from the person at Crystal city (who was told he could keep his job, sans 40% paycut), expecting to hear the job paid $50k... only to walk away from the interview being told its $28k a year.

Said person now works for a regional carrier, making MORE money and better benefits, in a non-management position.

We do pay very poorly, even if you're in corporate. I could be making a whole lot more working for another company, but I'm here because I like what I do and the company I'm working for. Who knows how long that's going to hold out for, but right now I'm happy. Can I see myself at US in 5 years? I don't think so. At least the way things are going right now. Expect to see a mass exodus of corporate people about this time next year. The contracts for the people who came from Crystal City run out (which means they don't have to pay back relocation anymore) so a lot are going to be heading back east. Some people are also just waiting for their profit sharing checks.

Dang, Homey. I make more than that! It would be a pay cut to go to a management position.
 
The pay scale for airport and reservations at America West before April 2006
both classifications start at $7.65 per hour and top out
at $13.09 per hour. It is important for agents to have this
information so they can understand the reality of America West.

America West pay raises and premiums and the pay scale were on a merit system and those
raises and premiums were given to individuals at their current pay rate,
rather than across the board. The top America West rate was still
$13.09 per hour ($27, 232 per year). It never increase more that $13.09

The Communications Workers of America representing passengers service employees negotiated a agreement with USAirways and America West for a interim 20 month transition agreement to bring America West agents pay up to $18.00 dollars hr. + future increases and improved benefits with snap backs to pre concessionary agreements of USAirway pass contract
 
Why does US Airways pay so poorly ..... IM glad you ask

Because shortly after the USAir - Piedmont Airline merger (around 1990) Delta set it sites on all the old traditional Piedmont markets and a few further north. They added service into RIC, ORF, CHS, CRW, AVL, ROA, GSO, RDU, TRI, HKY .... the list goes on and on.

They used mostly lower paid Comair and ASA flight crews to enter these markets and were relentless for the next 16 years at trying to run US Airways out of business. They made sure there was over capacity in these markets and priced in such a way neither airline made money.

So the employees at US Airways, while in BK decided that it was in their best interest to take massive pay cuts rather than allow Delta and Comair to successfully put them in the unemployment line. They did what they had to do, and as a result Deltas 15 year plan back fired and you see where they are today ..... <_< Remember who had a massive RJ armada first? Delta. US reluctantly changed RJ scope over the years prior to BK and paycuts.
