The, stuck in the last century, Beaurocratic AFLCIO unions never learn.
Sabre- I stand corrected, seems like just awhile back the Teamsters wer considered persona non grata within the AFL-CIO. I never heard they kissed and made-up. Well I did learn something today. Thanks for the clarifacation.

KCflyer, I believe you know that replacing the IAM will not benefit the mechanics TODAY,, Our wage and benefit rates are pretty much set till-2008..THIS- is the date that has to be looked at. The biggest difference between the 2 unions is that the IAM is a INDUSTRIAL union while AMFA is a TRADE union..The A&P technician has been subsidizing other members of the union for way too long. I realize it is law that the -related- have to be included with the mechanics TODAY,,,There is only one union that has tried to get this changed,,AMFA..I have heard they are continuing to work on changing the law.. I do not want to sound like a -elitist-but I think everyone ought to go into negotiations on their own merits..ALPA represents pilots and pilots ONLY,,,AFA represents F/A'S and F/A'S ONLY..

I disagree: Too specious. Too many variables to nail down what caused what. "Fragmentation" causes "didvide and conquer" which in turn begets some sort of calamity. Maybe, could be. Could be not. The present big tent "strength in numbers" theory doesn't seem to be doing so hot either, it would seem. -- Frankly, IMO, it's the same strength in numbers, industrial union mentality that's getting old and tired.
Frankly I am ready now for another union to come in. It is a shame when people do not want to file a grievance because you will never hear back about it since it appears they throw them all away. It appears to some that this is a company union and that people are being paid to be in the companies pocket. We have no union now and we need one.
