Great news...winglets are official! The first 757 with winglets will be in service by the end of the year. The real surprise, though, is that one 737-800 will also be fitted with winglets. Awesome news!

I Love it! But damn what are we going to do about fuel prices? Our carrier is the only legacy carrier that has not filed for BK in the last 2 decades or ever? Someone correct me if I am wrong. I hope these winglets will finally make us into that international airline, and drop most of the domestic stuff that we just can't compete with LLC's.

PanAm did what? Drop all domestic routes that weren't profitable?

Remind me which airline we can't compete with? AA, fuel neutral, is making more money than Southwest. Jetblue has had 6 consecutive quarters of declining earnings and will probably lose money in 3rd quarter. AA can and will continue to compete with these carriers, no matter what the surveys may say, our revenue premium over low cost carriers has increased this year. If the government would let some of the other legacy carriers go out of business AA would be just fine.

Besides, no US airline has ever shrunk substantially and been better off for it.

Hi,
I didn't say we couldn't compete other airlines, I said there were routes we can't compete on. These winglets will allow us to travel to more of the international destinations which are substantially more profitable. Please take that boulder off your shoulder, I meant no disrespect towards AA, we all have our bread buttered on the same side, I think. I am very proud of what AA and it's employee's (us) have been able to accmplish without bankruptcy and I am delighted these winglets are finally a done deal. Let's be thankful for the small things. Have a wonderful evening.

Winglets will be our salvation. Let's all contribute to the Winglet Fund by payroll deduction and save the airline.

I have been for twenty years now.

What will eventually bring this airline down is your cynicism. If you wanted a steady job you should have never gotten into the airline industry, even as a child I knew that. But oh well, keep up your griping and whining, look how far it has gotten you so far. <_<

Thanks for your permission.

I will do just that.

Unfortunately the winglets only add about 200 miles. Considering most of the 20 planes will be used for Hawaii flying and current Europe flying, I wouldn't expect an overload of new destinations.

I would rather face a layoff than a paycut. With a layoff I have a reasonable expectation that I will have a good job to return to. We knew the industry was volitile but we never expected to see huge paycuts. Layoffs yes, paycuts no. Paycuts dont save jobs, if they dont need you they wont keep you even if you are willing to work for less. All we did was take money out of our pockets so it could go to someone else. We dont see the top dogs taking paycuts do we?
