During the third Quarter news release they said 11 737-800 delivery positions for 2005 were sold. Does anyone know who bought them? As a side note the two 777 deliveries are still on the books for 2005.

Another article states, Delta said it has reached an agreement with an unidentified third party to sell 11 Boeing 737-800 aircraft that had been scheduled for delivery to the airline in 2005. The transaction is expected to reduce the company's capital expenditures by $500 million. The deal also includes an option for the third party to buy up to 10 additional Delta aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2006 and 2007.

Quantas took the AA 737 deliveries for 03. Who else is buying 737's. Did Branson buy them in anticipation of his new US based airline? Maybe he bought them for Virgin blue Australia.

I really doubt Delta would sell the aircraft to any current or potential competitor. These aircraft are most likely going overseas, maybe were sold to a leasing company only to be leased back when the time comes.
