What's your point?
Only intelligent people are atheists?
Please don't play dapoes and just throw crap out here, make your case or STFU!

There was no point. I just heard about Hawking making news yesterday about the subject so I threw it out there.

I know plenty of stupid people who believe in all sorts of things. I also know many intelligent people who could not ....insert your favorite euphemism here.

What is your point ;)

And were it not for science the earth would still be the center of the universe, witches would still be burned at the stake and the earth would still only be 6,000 years old.

As for the above examples of 'atheism', are we going on the assumption that the lack of belief in some supreme being was the sole cause of their down fall?

Well when you stack up the death toll of those despots and compare them to oh say the 18 witches burned at the stake, 2000 killed in the Spanish Inquisition and the 3000 in the WTC killed at the hands of religious zealots. I think under 10,000 compared to over 100 million would give one enough pause to ask might there be a causal relationship?

Now if you wish to go back more than 1,000 years and we can throw in those killed in the crusades.
Hell let's throw in the half million killed in the Great War of "Northern Aggression" aka Civil War.
Throw in the 179 killed at the Alamo too just for grins.

Geez did I get to 100 million yet?

So are we assuming that the lack of religion is the sole cause of the conflicts? Stirkes me as a bit naive but I guess if it lets you sleep better at night, knock your self out.

So you are saying:
All scientists are/were atheists.
Atheists like witches and would not harm them (not sure on you implication here... )
Atheists can stop time.

You a$$ume what you will and spin it as you like.
These are the facts, like it or not.
