Brought To The Convention Floor........

These are some of the items brought to the floor during twu conventions and rejected:

1) Be it resolved that no contract, side letter, letter of understanding, memorandum of understanding, nor any other agreement between the twu or any local or subdivision of the twu and any employer shall be entered into or considered valid unless a majority of the members directly affected shall have given their consent, having first had the opportunity to examine the complete and exact text of such agreement and to obtain such explanation of the intent and meaning of the language and the intended result of the agreement as may be necessary for them to make an informed decision whether to accept or reject the agreement.

*Rejected because in an opinion would make it almost impossible for a union to function.

2) The International officers and the members of the executive board shall be elected by direct referendum vote of the membership. The election shall take place no more than three months prior to the regular International convention.

*Rejected - current system provides more democracy than would a mail ballot vote of the membership.

3) Any proposed agreement shall be subject to ratification by the members covered by such proposed agreement. This ratification will take place using a nuetral outside source for the mailing and counting of the ballots.

*Rejected

4) OFFICER RECALL- The membership has decided in order to make International officers more accountable, that article XXII be amended to include recall of International officers. In the case of the International President, International Executive Vice President and the International Secretary Treasurer a petition from one third of all twu locals would bring about a recall vote. A majority vote from the membership would recall said officer. in the case of an international officer within a division, one third of the locals within that division can petition to recall that international officer. A majority vote by the membership within that division would determine the outcome of the officer recall.

*Rejected

5) WEIGHTEED AVERAGE- To prevent the international officers from losing direction with inflated salaries, the salary computation should be a weighted average of the top pay scale of the membership, rather than a weighted average of the entire memberships pay structure. We want articles V, VI, VII, and VIII amended to reflect the change.

*Rejected

What we did get:

REMOVAL OF ARTICLE XXII FROM THE CONSTITUTION. Article XXII stated:

Removal of Local Officers

Section 1. Upon receipt of a written petition signed by one-third of the members in good standing of the Local Union or section, requesting the recall or removal of an officer of the Local or section, the recording secretary of the Local or section shall issue a call for a special meeting to be held within not less than fifteen(15) days and not more than thirty(30) days after the presentation of such petition to consider the recall or removal of said officer. In the event that a majority of the members of the Local Union or its section vote for the recall or removal of said officer, his/her office shall be declared vacant.

Section 2. An officer removed pursuant to the provisions of this article shall have no right of appeal except only as to the procedure.

The people who are finally able to change the twu, if at all possible, will deserve a great deal of respect and honor. The Local 100 "New Directions" group has been trying to change the twu for over 20 years. They are the group that won the civil case against sonny hall that found him guilty of violating workers rights. They are the largest local in the twu. The twu advocates that want to change from within have nothing but an up-hill battle. I'd rather get "REAL" change by getting rid of our old and out-dated union.

Keep the Faith........AMFA NOW!!!!!!

When the truth is posted like above, the twu supporters fail to respond and then they flood the board with BS Polls and other garbage to avoid this debate.

Did I miss your source document on these items, or was the fact that Stewart said it was so enough for the amfamites?

And on another note, we elect our presidents do we not? We expect them to represent us, vote on our behalf, and lead our locals. How they vote is part of record, if you do not like their record, vote them out next election or run against them, and put yourself up for the scrutiny to come.

Nightwatch.......Go down to the twu local and request the minutes to any of the last four (4) conventions and propasals that were submitted by locals. If an AMFA guy like me has this stuff, so should you!! I just posted some of the ones that would make the twu more like the AMFA, but were rejected, or squashed, before they reached the floor. Some of the propasals were from the 514!! I really think the International should be elected by a direct vote of the membership, and we should require final contract language and vote on all side letters. Check out Ed Wilson and the "B" slate and how the international was able to defeat his efforts once they knew he was a threat!! Check out Sonnys antics that kept him in office the last convention. Can't blame a guy for wanting to keep his bread and butter!! You will soon know why the AMFA supporters don't buy "Change from Within"!!

Good luck to all the twu convention delegates. Even though no one could tell me when the next convention is, they all knew it was in Vegas!!

KEEP THE fAITH.........AMFA NOW!!!!!!!!!!
