Agreement in Principle Reached
We wanted to personally inform you that on May 5, 2022, Southwest and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) reached an Agreement in Principle (AIP) on a contract extension through 2026 for our Appearance Technicians.
An AIP is achieved when both Negotiating Teams have reached a general agreement on the terms of the contract, but need additional time to ensure no items have been omitted and that agreed upon terms are accurately expressed. Once this review is completed, both parties will declare a Tentative Agreement and prepare for membership ratification.
We are proud of the effort both Teams put forth to reach this new agreement, which benefits both our Appearance Techs and Southwest Airlines. The AIP includes fixed wage rate increases for our Appearance Techs, as well as other improvements to the contract.
Both Committees are working diligently to finalize the language in the contract extension. Once complete, you will receive the details of the agreement, additional information, and materials to review. We appreciate your patience while we work through these final items.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to your Union Representative, or email Southwest Labor Relations at [email protected].

Another failure by these AMFA bastards. They haven’t gotten these people a raise in 6 years and they try to negotiate an extension which miserably fails and they’re STILL going to try to negotiate ONLY an extension. What a complete and total slimeball outfit.

“The AMFA-Southwest Airlines (SWA) Appearance Technicians (AATs) overwhelmingly rejected the contract extension LOA tentative agreement, reporting via survey that the number one concern was the snap of 6.25% followed by the wage increases being focused on progression of the bottom of the of the pay scale and the tenured employees were not receiving a pay increase proportionally. Extension talks will continue on August 9 and September 7-8”

Ok seriously, OMG. No seriously again OMFG. I just looked and AMFA has not gotten these people a raise in the last 6 years. Their last raise was in 2016 and then they only went up to $23.74 per hour. Their contract became amendable in 2017.

On top of that AMFA was only able to negotiate an EXTENSION and not even a full deal to help grow their work!!!! That extension blows out their contract to 2026. That’s not a 4 year extension, that’s a 9 “NINE” year extension. Who the hell do these people really work for?

This news article came across my inbox this morning while sipping coffee and enjoying a much cooler morning, which made it a much better read indeed.

Like E said. B6 out numbers NK. Don’t count your chickens before the eggs hatch.

AMFA Aug update is out. AMFA has experienced some very good growth this year with new airline mechanics going with the Class and Craft representation of AMFA for their mechanics and related. Sure hope the JetBlue and AA Mechanics will join soon.
Congrats to all the new mechanics joining AMFA.
Congrats to the ATT's for getting quickly to a second TA for the membership to vote on.

National President Update - August 2022
September 9, 2022 -- Hopefully, everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement. American labor has raised the nation’s standard of living and it is appropriate that the American worker recognize Labor Day and celebrate the unity, strength, freedom, and leadership of the American union worker. 140 years later, AMFA continues to progress the voice of American workers in the aviation industry, further warranting and contributing to Labor Day celebration. Guiding non-unionized, skilled workgroups to become unionized, exemplifies AMFA’s impact on labor in the airlines industry and makes it evident the AMFA representation movement is accelerating.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in Canada Seek Representation by AMFA
    CENTENNIAL, Colo.
    – September 14, 2022 – The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is happy to announce the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) authorized and ordered a representation vote for the Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) from L3 Harris Technologies MAS Inc. at Trenton AFB, who approached AMFA seeking representation in July this year.
"This is the start of a new chapter for both AMFA and the AMEs in Canada,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National President. “The needs of skilled AMEs have been pushed to the side by other larger workgroups in other bargaining units for too long. AMFA is the solution to promote, elevate, and unify our skilled profession as the only ‘one-craft union’ for aircraft maintenance technicians and engineers across North America.”
“The L3 Harris professionals feel that the aircraft maintenance trade requires distinct consideration at the bargaining table to address skill, training, licensing requirements, and legal responsibilities associated with the certification of aircraft airworthiness. AMFA is honored to have opportunity to represent this group."

"The CIRB granting this vote confirms these professionals are seeking to replace their current bargaining agent, and a majority have shown interest in AMFA,” said Oestreich. “We now wait for the CIRB to start the representation vote for the L3 Harris employees to cast a vote for a new trade union – AMFA."
“The L3 Harris AMEs and apprentices are a distinct, federally regulated trade group responsible for the repair and certification of the CC150 Polaris aircraft fleet as well as air-to-air refueling aircraft and the Prime Minister’s aircraft. The group is currently represented by the IAM, within which AMEs are a minority and positions such as aircraft baggage handlers and clerical workers are seeking comparable compensation, despite the AMEs’ higher education and federally regulated responsibility,” stated Oestreich. “We are excited to welcome the AMEs and technicians in Canada to trade unionism.”
This is AMFA’s first attempt at representing a trade group in Canada, where there are more than 100 Aerospace and Defense Contractors and approximately 550 licensed air carriers transporting passengers and cargo to destinations both domestic and international. There are approximately 17,000 AMEs in Canada that require a union advocating for trade-specific value and interests. Several other airlines, maintenance repair operation facilities, and the Aerospace and Defense Contractors across North America are currently seeking representation by AMFA.
    ###
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association is a craft oriented, independent aviation union. AMFA represents licensed and unlicensed technicians and related employees actively involved in the aviation industry. These technician and related employees work directly on aircraft and/or components, support equipment, and facilities. AMFA is committed to elevating the professional standing of technicians and to achieving progressive improvements in wages, benefits, and working conditions of the skilled folks it represents. October 3, 2022 -- AMFA is extremely honored that the professionals at L3 Technologies MAS (L3) at Trenton, Ontario have chosen us to represent you as your union. We look forward to starting the collective bargaining process and working to increase the standards in your workplace. The focus of AMFA will be to build the craft/trade, highlight and recognize the importance of aircraft maintenance engineers, aircraft technicians and apprentices (the maintenance group), and occupational support services (OSS). You should be extremely proud of your accomplishment in becoming the first AMFA-represented trade group in Canada. AMFA National has been busy, busy, busy in 2022. AMFA is still growing within the airline industry at a record pace, tripling the number of airlines where the Mechanics are bringing in AMFA's Mechanic Class and Craft Union to represent them. Along with 2 more airlines still working on getting AMFA in at their airline (American & JetBlue) which will more than likely happen in 2023. JB might get at least an announcement in 2022, bringing the total airlines to increase by 5 in a very short amount of time.
Under the current leadership of AMFA, they have done a great service in the growth and expansion as well as honoring the men and women in the Mechanic industry. I tip my hat to the leadership of AMFA for a fantastic year of growth in 2022 (23). AMFA for all Aircraft Mechanics...

AMFA's Oct 2022 update has been posted. Highlighting the huge move into Canada could very easily become a huge movement into other entities for AMFA to represent several other members throughout the country.
Congrats to the men and women at ALK for the boost they will start receiving this month to the steps in the contract, boosting them 11.5% each step, impressive jump at a time when needed most. Even with their contract nego's starting this month as well. Kudos to them. Happy reading folks. A lot of good news came into AMFA in 2022...

National President Update - September 2022
October 7, 2022 -- We are happy to announce another new addition to AMFA. This is another tangible result exemplifying AMFA’s impact on labor in the aviation industry in North America and that the craft/trade-specific AMFA representation movement is accelerating. Earlier this year, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) certified as a trade union in Canada, and earlier this week the L3 Technologies MAS at CFB Trenton aviation professionals, with nearly 100% participation, selected AMFA as their union representative.

Wow do they write a ton of garbage. Too bad the average member doesn’t actually do their own research anyway. That’s what Lee “AMFA” Seeham relies on anyway.

Madden flipped and went to work for management. Not much of a change given AMFA's track record of giving in all the time.
