Buzz around CAL is UAL to merge w/CAL through financing offer from Gordon Bethune. Anyone heard this one as well? IV had a feeling Cohen is setting NWA up to join US/AWA, but was unsure about NWA/CAL/DAL code share. Maybe?

Wow what an interesting thing that would be! but the problem is will the govt allow that to happen, even though with the oil prices being above 61 a barrel and most major carriers struggling?

It will be interesting to see what happens if the mechanics strike and NWA files for bankruptcy. They could be there a few years like UA while HP and US get completely integrated.

Since the Star Alliance and Skyteam are competitors, it would be my scientific wild-a**ed guess, that if NWA/US/AWA were to happen the NWA/CAL/DAL codeshare would be dead. Probably the gummint wouldn't allow it to continue.

American and Alaska already codeshare; so, it would be strong incentive, though not an ironclad guarantee.

AA, with the AS codeshare, is tolerable out west.

They certainly did a better job with the west coast than US did with PSA. I can still fly LAX-SFO on AA.....

DL and AS also codeshare, though AS has a longer and closer partnership with AA.

Gordon Bethune resigned from CAL in January. Is he a banker now?
