Delta And Northwest Officially In Chapter 11

You can bet the PBGC is going to have their plates even fuller now. They are still trying to sort out the mess US dumped on them. All the airlines want to dump their pensions, and BK is the only "legitimate" way to do it. Ask Jerry Glass, he's the master at corporate restructuring..... Look for him to be leaving this ship very soon. Looks like he's got a couple of new prospects....

BK is not a bad thing.. its a good thing.. they get to kill their pensions off and become more competitive.. Delta's is a pre packaged BK...

And how is "killing off" the pensions of people who have spent their lives working for these companies a good thing? All this, while the Top Execs bail out with their golden parachutes. You can bet their pensions won't be touched. The have provisions that protect them, even in bankruptcy.

I think all the pension dumping that is going on is a travesty, and should be illegal! Liquidate the company before the pension plans! We're going to end up with only about 3 major airlines anyway! Let the free-market system dictate who survives, not a judge!

Anytime a company files for Ch 11 they come out smaller and leaner, Im sure the folks at DAL and NW are well aware of that and arent feeling to happy about the distinct possability of losing their jobs.

Odd that NW and DL filed on the same day. Anyone see this as a first step to merging the two companies? It might make the DOJ and BK judge agree to such an arrangement.

You guys remember the rumours and some truth about US shutting down/liquidating in jan-feb of 2004, all airlines thot "yay' !

well guess what

US strikes Back !

It ain't voer yet, my friend.

AWA/USA will be higher at their costs when the rest of the legacies are finished with their cost savings.

A race to the bottom in costs.

It will help. Bankrupt airlines get smaller and some (not many, but every little bit helps) people will book away from DL and NW. Reduced capacity will tend to push up fares.

If FLYI died, which is highly likely, it would help even more, obviously.

Well, DL officially filed for bankruptcy just moments ago. Do you think their filing will help boost bookings for US in the next few months? Could this help US/AWA through the lean months?

Through all the mudslinging the U people put up with regarding your BK, almost all of the U employees have expressed only the the best to your competitions employees on their boards..that shows true class!!

I remember all the "don't forget to turn off the lights" comments for the United folks as well. Funny, that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Grrrrr, we got stronger. ;)

Of course the ultimate will be if everyone gets their houses in order and AA ends up being the one that can't take the newly restructured airlines. Karma works in mysterious ways.

Keep in mind that BEFORE the DL bankruptcy, their SONG division had more value than DL mainline............thus, ticket prices will remain low, and DL will pump more $$$ into SONG.........that cannot help US/HP

The days of Delta "pumping" anything were lost yesterday. In BK everything goes before the judge first. The execs lose ALL control to determine were $$ goes. Only thing for sure is the lose of pay and benefits for the employees.

That is funny, having been through two bankruptcies at US the executives were IN control and did not lose control.
