DL commits to SLC

which goes to show that regardless of what happens with SEA or DL's relationship with AS, SLC has a place in DL's network and DL isn't afraid to commit to significant new costs to create a better experience for SLC.

SLC is ideally located to serve as an east-west hub that is close enough to the west coast to allow service to many small markets with regional jets and to build on DL's presence in the mountain states.

Notably, DL gets a higher fare from SLC than its primary competitor there and also higher than the multiple competitors receive from DEN to many of the same destinations.

It's the entire airport being renovated, so that rising tide will lift all boats...

Sure, DL will see benefits, but so will WN and everyone else who uses the airport.

DL probably wants more burgers and Bloody Mary's sold so that they're stuck with less of the bill for the upgrades.

And DL is cutting SEA-HND flights effective September from daily to only 5 days a week.

Also scaling back DTW-NGO, and HNL-FUK and NGO.

since it is a hub for DL but the end of the road for most every other flight at SLC, DL cares far more about having a facility that looks and functions as good as other competitive airports.

And I would also bet that DL has carefully calculated the cost of the construction to make sure that DL's passenger costs at SLC are still some of the lowest in the country in a hub - just as they are at ATL, DTW, and MSP.

which of course has nothing to do with SLC other than to show that DL does what is necessary to match supply and demand for profitability.

It is probably why DL is the ONLY US carrier that has been profitable on a year round basis across the Pacific.

BTW, all of those markets have operated on a less than daily basis on at least part of the year in the past. Nothing new.

I must say that I am confused . . .  What do these seasonal reductions have to do with SLC?  If this is changing to seasonal reductions, lets not forget that US will cut CLT to DUB, MAN, CDG, BCN, MAD, LIS, MAD and FCO this fall.
