Doesn't Anyone Want to Comment on the US Proposed Takeover of DL?

Its nearly 7pm on the 15th and the news of the hostile bid by USAir for Delta has been on the airways for over 12 hours. Where's the chatter on the NW message board? This could change everything in the entire airline industry. Will NWA make a play for DL? Will AA make a play for NWA? Things are a buzz everywhere with speculation...galleys, jumpseats, cockpits. What's next? What's your guess? Will Dougie pull off an amazing carrot out of his butt? Let's start the rumor/hope mill here and now!

There is another thread called "Hey NorthWest". I did respond on that thread.

If I worked for NW I may care to comment more, however I don't call being on a recall list or waiting in limbo to resign, working for NW.

I don't frequent galleys, jumpseats or cockpits so the "buzz" is lost to me.

Perhaps you can comment more or start the buzz, rumor/hope mill since you started the thread.

my opinion is: Don't care.

all I'm hearing is whining and b!tching about how they are gonna pay their bills and where they should look for a job.

Why...... some pity whore pilot was going on and on about how he had to "suffer" with all these pay cuts. This must have happened for at leat 5 minutes until I just got tired of it.

I flat out told him it's better than no job.... "What about those Mechanics that went on strike"?

no more whining. Silence.

I have the same opinion as you Jenny - I don't care what happens at/with/to NWA anymore.

I am glad to hear about you giving that pilot some perspective on the situation that some of us had to go through...

I swear if I hear another pilot A) Boohoo about how much they've given up, or B ) Try to shovel that "most-of-the-pie-is-better-than-none-of-the-pie" nonsense again, I'll puke (ideally on them).

Anyhoo..Back on topic...

Here's my .02 on the whole deal: Skyteam weakens quite a bit without DL in it. If they (and US/HP) stay in, the opposite is true.

If DL has to divest somethings to satisfy the DOJ, I say NW should pursue some of their Latin/South America routes.

If AA bought NW, would the TWU have the right to kick the scabs off property. I'm not asking if they would, I'm just curious to know if they could make that decision.

Hopefully, they could bring back some of the off-shoring that NWA is, or planning on, doing.

Nice reply Jenny!

Can consolidation reduce capacity enough to eliminate the existing price erosion suffered by U.S. airlines? I'm thinking that regulation is need due to pricing and service issues that currently exist.

Spoken like a true socialist.

God forbid we let the market take care of "pricing and service issues that currently exist". Just be patient and let the market work; it works every time it's tried.

Well he's not the only one who thinks the same way. This "buzz" has been going on for a while.

Yes, there is a significant percentage of the population that has not taken even an introductory economics course, and they would likely agree with Necro.

? What were all those bail outs after 9-11? Why is the oil industry getting subsides? Why does agriculture get subsides? What is social security? Medicare, Medicate? Tell me finnman if and when you make it to 65/67 when ever it is you can retire are you going to cash that socialist S/S check or are you to proud? Do you know any history of this industry you work in? How do you think it got off the ground? This industry cannot fend for itself and has lost more money than its made. Lorenzo style management seems to be the way nwa thinks it can make money but tell me what did that A-hole touch that ever survived. Long term I don't think this industry could make money if the employees worked for free.

Well I also heard this from a prof who teaches airline management.
Of course I would think he did take economics at one point in his academic career.
And this was a few years before this mess occured...
Well that's your opinon that only people who are ingnorant about economics believes this. Really, who knows where that invisible hand is going. Did things really IMPROVE after de-regulation? Prices didn't seem to change at all for the past 50 something years. Think de-regulation only let some airline have some breathing room and not have to go through the process of waiting weeks to be able to change airfare prices, have approval of what type of sevice they can have, ect.

hey everyone- im a usairways f/a. what is everyone on the line saying about the US/DL buy out? all of our people have mixed feelings- some say it will definitely happen others say no chance. then when we run into DL employees they are UPSET! anyway, it's out of all of our hands... just wanted to see whats being said elsewhere. :)
