As the Democrat-led Congress returns to “workâ€￾ this week, it is likely to be equally passive when it comes to dealing with the real threats facing the United States. Though General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker have yet to deliver their report on the effectiveness of the “surgeâ€￾ in Iraq, Democrat leaders — and their candidates for president — have already staked out what they think is important.

Sen. Barack Obama wants to bomb Pakistan. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton prefers to “honorâ€￾ our troops by getting them out of Iraq. Sen. John Edwards is ready to raise the white flag immediately. Meanwhile, congressional Democrats are intent on investigating Alberto Gonzales, who resigned this week as attorney general. And, none of them have anything useful to say about the most serious threat we have faced in decades: a nuclear armed Iran.

Your right truth seeker no one needs to say more, O. North pretty much nailed it!

He was pardoned before his conviction was overturned if I recall correctly.
I don't believe that was the case. Here is what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:
North was tried in 1988 in relation to his activities while at the National Security Council. He was indicted on sixteen felony counts and on May 4, 1989, he was initially convicted of three: accepting an illegal gratuity, aiding and abetting in the obstruction of a congressional inquiry, and destruction of documents (by his secretary, Fawn Hall, on his instructions). He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gerhard A. Gesell on July 5, 1989, to a three-year suspended prison term, two years probation, $150,000 in fines, and 1,200 hours community service. However, on July 20, 1990, with the help of the ACLU, North's convictions were vacated, after the appeals court found that witnesses in his trial might have been impermissibly affected by his immunized congressional testimony.

The Supreme Court declined to review the case, and Judge Gesell dismissed all charges against North on September 16, 1991, after hearings on the immunity issue, on the motion of the independent counsel. Essentially, North's convictions were overturned because he had been granted limited immunity for his Congressional testimony, and this testimony was deemed to have influenced witnesses at his trial.
Isn't it ironic that a neo-con icon was saved by the ACLU?

Geez Louise. You really are thick sometimes. I seem to recall you railing against the ACLU as being some liberal blah blah blah. The point you seem to miss and as is proved by their defense of North is that the ACLU simply fights to have the laws of this country abide by the US Constitution. It does not care if the act committed is popular or not. The ACLU looks at the law and makes a determination of whether it believes that the accused is being treated according to the law. Whether the accused is a pedophile, skinhead, crack dealer or a republican is irrelevant.
