Patrick Cau was in Fort Worth training to become an American Airlines flight attendant when he was arrested and federally charged with phoning in eight fake bomb threats to United Airlines....

How did that happen?

The same way that a mechanical problem turns up in your car after you had it in the shop. It was just a timing thing. He was not placed on the Federal no-fly list until after he had already started training.

The Feds are not going to tell you details about cases they are working or people possibly under suspicion before they are ready to move forward with charges. What if a false accusation had been made against the young man by a bitter ex?

In this case, it looks like the system worked as it should. Guy gets on the no-fly list and he's terminated.

One article claims that AA is modifying its FA training so that info that's more sensitive, like security info, isn't shared with FA recruits until later in their training.

There's no real need to modify the training sequence...

When the no-fly lists came out, we (i.e. my rogue programming group) were doing a comparison against the HR databases on a minimum of a weekly basis. That eventually got automated within the confines of SHARP (SAP).

Sounds to me like the system still worked as designed, no?
