MINNEAPOLIS, Dec 31, 2003 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- A woman allegedly tried to choke a federal air marshal after she became disruptive on a flight from Pittsburgh to Minneapolis, authorities said.

The air marshal approached the woman, who was allegedly intoxicated, vocal and obnoxious aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 1057 on Tuesday, Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Jennifer Marty said.

After the woman continued to be disruptive, she tried to choke the marshal in a later exchange, Marty said. She also kicked the marshal in the groin and bit a law enforcement officer after she was escorted off the plane, Marty said.

The flight landed at 8:30 p.m. at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with the woman in handcuffs. She was led off the plane by police and placed in federal custody.

The extent of the marshal's injuries was unknown.

Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan said he wasn't sure if the woman was served alcohol on the plane.

The woman could face federal charges of assault or interfering with a flight crew, he said.

Assuming she wasn't served alcohol on the plane, I wonder why the agents (or crew) didn't catch this before she boarded? It seems like there's been an uptick of drunk pax this season compared to last. Anyone else notice this at their respective stations/airlines?

It seems like a bit of a stretch to assume that she wasn't served alcohol on the flight just because the athorities aren't sure one way or another.

Either way, in today's world of electronic tickets and self-service check-in, it's entirely possible that no NWA employees interacted with the woman for any length of time prior to her becoming disruptive. Some may say this is evidence of a need for more airport personnel, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I read on-line today at CNN.com that a man was arrested on the DTW-HNL flight about 90 minutes from landing in HNL. He was subdued by the flight crew and other passengers and is now biding his time in a Honolulu jailcell! Apparantley he got unruley and refused to behave. Good for the professional NW stews!

...if you really want to punish him just send him back to Detroit! B)

I saw the mug shot of the other drunk (the woman) on TV the other night, and she's right up there with Glen Campbell/Wynonna Judd/Nick Nolte in the "three sheets to the wind" mug shot hall of shame!

The woman's neighbors here in the Pittsburgh suburb were not shocked by this occurence. Seems she get abusive when drinking and her neighbors said they stay away from her when she gets drunk. It was all over the news here.

My cousin is a pilot at Northwest. When I'm around him, I want to get drunk too. (He has this effect on people. Makes them want to forget they were there) Maybe he was flying her plane. :p
