Item 1. After a year and a half of negotiations, management is finally
drafting their first complete economic proposal and will present it to the
JNC on May 8th and 9th. Your MEC and your JNC needs your help so that we
can tell management, loud and clear, what we expect from this proposal. To
that end, your Strike Prep Committee is announcing a picketing event in
Philadelphia on Friday, April 27th.

We need to remind management exactly what needs to be addressed in any of
their proposals in order to get a ratifiable agreement these are: pay and
benefit levels that are commensurate with US Airways' position in the
marketplace, a scheduling system that doesn't treat us like indentured
servants, and industry-leading scope. These will be the cornerstones of a
fair agreement.

This next picketing event gives you an excellent opportunity to get this
message across before management passes their next proposal. You should
know that during a brown bag luncheon this week in PHX, Doug Parker stated
that management and the pilots are far apart on their positions in contract
negotiations and that both sides appear to be digging in their heels. He
also stated that management's number one priority right now is to put the
operation back on track and that pilot contract negotiations may take a lot
longerPic

After the JNC meets with management on May 8th and 9th, we'll also
be gearing up for a massive, week-long coast-to-coast picketing event: 6 cities in 6 days. The schedule for this event will be: May 21st in CLT; May 22nd in LAX; May 23rd in DCA; May 24th in PHX; May 25th in PHL; May 26 in LAS. This, along with the April 27th event in PHL, will give all pilots the opportunity to picket in support of a fair contract.

Ooohh. How fun. Just what I'd want to do with my time on a day off, go and pester customers.

The fact that you believe they are doing it for "fun" demonstrates your continued ignorance regarding the matter. Bury your head a little deeper in the sand, if you can; it's comfortable there....

I hope it pesters management more, I've given up 3 or 4 days to picket around the system. It's well worth it!!!!!!!!

I'm sure there are some mechanics who would not mind joining the line as a show of displeasure. I think the IAM is scared of demonstrating as it may cost them some $$$.

Would it be Ok to wear the "Chug A Lug for Doug" t shirts if they are out yet?

You are a prime example why unionism is on the wane in the USA.

Uh.... I'm not a represented employee. I prefer to negotiate my own salary and working conditions rather than letting the lowest common denominator determine them for me. You should try it sometime, it is empowering, and it pays a lot better than most of the union positions with the exception of most of the senior mainline pilots.

In all seriousness though, why would anyone want to waste their time annoying paying customers by standing around the entrance to the terminal and whining about their tragic pay and working conditions? The company will get around to negotiating with the represented workgroups in due time.

Funny thing is they usually kick and scream the most when they are being escorted out the door when their number is called!! ;) Unless of course you happen to be one of the lucky few with the golden chute, those I cannot blame as you get the $$ screw-up or not!!!
