Inspectors find airplane food warehouse infested with rodents
March 29, 2005 — A storage facility for airplane food at O'Hare was shut down Tuesday after city inspectors found it infested with rodents.
Authorities closed Gate Gourmet Storage where airline snack foods such as pretzels, pop and beer are stored.

City inspectors say they found more than a thousand rat droppings throughout the premises. Gate Gourmet was also found to be operating without a business license.

The warehouse will not reopen until it gets a license and passes another inspection.

Nothing like a little justice to make one's day eh 700?

Just FYI...

I got an email from AA management about this story. Gate Gourmet is our caterer at ORD. According to the email, the press reports of closure due to unsanitary conditions was incorrect. The problem was, in fact, that they had not paid the renewal fee on the city of Chicago business permit.

It was also stressed in the email that only soda insert packing was done in that particular building along with storage of catering supplies--napkins, plastic cups, styrofoam cups, etc.

Don't know whose telling the truth. This is just another version of the story.

P.S. to SFB: They would never use rat meat in the Inflight Cafe sandwich. However, have you ever noticed that you never see any stray dogs around the catering kitchen?

If you are going to serve rats at least contract with White Castle to do it right.

'Two rats hold the tail, two fish, hold the scale'.
