Famed aviation author and commercial aviation historian Robert J. Serling has died in Tucson AZ on May 6 at the age of 92.
Serling was the author of 25 books, both fiction and non-fiction, including many commercial aviation histories. Among them are histories of American ("Eagle"), TWA ("Howard Hughes' Airline"), Eastern ("From the Captain to the Colonel"), and Western ("The Only Way To Fly").
His most recent airline history, the story of Alaska Airlines, "Character and Characters" was published in 2008.
Many of his fiction works also had aviation themes, including the best-seller "The President's Plane Is Missing".
Serling co-wrote several aviation-themed "Twilight Zone" episodes with his late brother and "Twilight Zone" creator, Rod Serling.
World Airline Historical Society members remember Mr. Serling from his Airliners International convention banquet speaking appearances, most recently at the 2008 Dallas/Ft. Worth convention.
The commercial aviation community has lost a historian and friend with the passing of Mr. Serling.
