Spirit Airlines officials announced Thursday that new service from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to LaGuardia Airport in New York City, as well as airports in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Atlantic City, San Francisco and Orlando, Fla., will begin during the summer travel season.
New service that will begin this summer includes:
* Service to LaGuardia Airport is currently scheduled to increase from three to four flights a day on May 1.
* Service to Myrtle Beach will increase from one daily flight to a second nonstop flight on Saturdays beginning May 6.
* Nonstop service to Atlantic City will resume on May 19.
* New nonstop service to San Francisco International Airport is scheduled to start May 25.
* Service to Orlando, Fla., will increase from three to four flights a day beginning July 15.
Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Lester Robinson was pleased with Spirit¹s decision to increase service out of Metro Airport at a time when Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines are cutting service due to the poor economy.
