Interesting that none of the drill baby drill folks have mentioned this.

U.S. to Be World’s Top Oil Producer in 5 Years, Report Says

The United States will overtake Saudi Arabia as the world’s leading oil producer by about 2017 and will become a net oil exporter by 2030, the International Energy Agency said Monday.
That increased oil production, combined with new American policies to improve energy efficiency, means that the United States will become “all but self-sufficient” in meeting its energy needs in about two decades — a “dramatic reversal of the trend” in most developed countries, a new report released by the agency says.

Being the number 1 producer is generally a good thing. The question I'd ask is by how much are we ahead and will it supply all of our oil needs?

I think the answer to that question is still a NO!

What it does do however is give us time to develop new and better solar, wind, fuel cell, coal resources to be on our own energy wise. Drill baby drill is still valid as you can never have to much of a precious commodity. We have a Debt & Currency crisis looming. Natural resources can save us but we must exploit the opportunity while we still have it.

Keep in mind the very last thing the rest of the world wants is for us to be energy independant which is all the more reason to do so.
