Looks like CAL has made their choice to go with the STAR and UAL-Lufthansa in a joint marketing anti-trust venture... Great move for CAL, and a nice addition to the STAR, making it a stronger alliance than before...

Good. They would have brought nothing to our table.

Continental is just positioning itself to take over United's pacific routes after UA goes Chapter 7 later this year.

You forgot to mention AA is going under also and pensions... Just wait and see... UA might be there but AA is near......

Jealously will not get you anywhere..... Thats correct!!! All those unions contracts up.. wait and see what's next to come in cost cutting and BK....

US/UAL/NW/DL/CO knows what it's all about..

It's AA's turn now. No SJU hub and the list will keep changing as Fall comes into play.. More A300 parked and super80s...

Its ok, Airborne, It is very obvious when most (not all) AAers brag about something when it is working in their favor and then shun it when when the suitor doesn't hand them the rose to take them home, just like a princess (pun definitely intended)...

Understand that Bear. Now explain why EVERYONE has pegged AA as the #1 company in AMERICA to go Chapter 11???

Everyone? Or, could it be propaganda due to the fact that all the represented employee groups have contracts that are past their amendable date?

United is going Chapter 7  . Devine intervention couldn't stop it now. CO will gladly take United's pacific routes after UAL goes belly up. AA will also gladly take NWA's pacific routes when NWA and Delta go Chapter 7 after they merge. When USair goes Chapter 7  , it will look like a buzzard family reunion as AA,CO,SWA, and Jetblue feast upon the dead carcass.

No jealously here folks, just reality.

Even though the government has allowed the media, the banks and the oil industries to consolidate I dont see that happening in this industry, at least not yet.

The problem with a consolidated airline industry is labor. The industry is still very labor intensive and that makes it vulnerable. Consolidation of the airlines would basically do for the workers what the unions have failed to do-solidify them and put them in a better bargaining position.

AMTRACK hasnt made money in years(if ever) yet their workers arent losing benifits, pensions or pay.

Bring on AMAIR!!!

Smart move on Continental's part to go with UA. The combined carriers will offer a far more superior route structure. AA and BA bring nothing to CO. The question now remains what will this do to AA and LCC?? Perhaps they make link up after all??

LCC may have to go it alone, which ironically might be OK for them. Take away all the overhead crap required by an alliance, and perhaps LCC could start living up to its stock symbol...
