United moves up retirement of 747s to 4th Qtr. 2017

United accelerates retirement of all remaining 747s to 4th quarter 2017. My all-time favorite airplane as a passenger. Hate to see them go.

The last 747 out of ORD was a few weeks ago (ORD-NRT), and I'm pretty certain they're already entirely gone from IAD. That means heading out to SFO if you want one more shot at The Queen.

I enjoyed flying on the 747, but far prefer the 777 and MD11 in that order. Whenever I worked the 74SP's, it was almost a daily event that we'd have a mechanical on one if not both. They had four of everything to break, and it seems reliability is a huge problem according to a pilot I know who is currently flying it for UA.
