Merger update

Wednesday's developments in US Airways' bid for Delta:

• Thousands of Delta employees and retirees swarmed a convention center near Atlanta for an anti-US Airways rally. One retiree told an Atlanta newspaper that US Airways CEO Doug Parker should go back to the desert.

• US Airways executives met for a second time with Delta creditors in New York.

• Delta management also met with creditors to lay out its restructuring plan and its opposition to US Airways' offer.

• Delta pilots started a publication, Veritas, to set the record straight about information in US Airways' "For the Record" newsletter, itself designed to set the record straight about merger issues.

• US Airways put out the latest issue of "For the Record." It concludes: "While it's easy to get caught up in the rhetoric being tossed around by all sorts of experts and others, including some of our Delta brothers and sisters, it's important to stay focused on our similarities and take the higher road. Fear is a powerful motivator and empathy can go a long way."
