US Airways Mechanic and Related Update
On November 16, 2005, US Airways CEO Doug Parker held a labor advisory meeting in Tempe, Arizona, to discuss the company’s financial status and their plans going forward to integrate the workgroups.
Parker said that the proving runs for the 757 ETOPS were on schedule and the Hawaii service will start on December 16, 2005. The combined company has already reduced the fleet by 45 aircraft and they will eliminate an additional 15 to 20 more aircraft. They do not anticipate any furloughs on US Airways or America West as a result of this reduction. The combined fleet after the reductions will be 355 aircraft.
CEO Parker had invited one member from each union representing members on US Airways and America West. Every unionized employee group from both carriers had a representative at this meeting except for the Teamster’s Andy Marshall.
Apparently, Andy wasn’t interested enough to come to the meeting to represent his members. The only IBT member attending was someone representing the C.S.A. members. Be assured that Bill Freiberger, mechanic and related, and Tom Mikelavic, fleet service, were there to represent the IAM membership.
Andy decided it was more important to fly to Pittsburgh to continue his vicious misinformation campaign to turn brother against brother in his self-serving and destructive raid to decertify the IAM.
“ASK ANDY†what’s more important -- meeting with the company to learn what the future holds for our members or to use the opportunity to sneak into Pittsburgh to try to undermine solidarity.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Steve Ebert
