Should Varig successfully merge with Tam how would that affect the Varig employees here in the States, mainly LAX? What are the chances of the merger NOT happening and Varig filing for bankruptcy?

I have a friend that works for Varig at LAX and she''s extremely worried about losing her job.

Thanks

TAM is the real success story( GOL is another) of Brazilian airlines internationally. Its founder died in a helicopter crash in 2001. Then all the 9/11 related events have been not been kind to TAM, MIA was 2 flights daily, its now one. Merging with Varig is good for Varig but lousy for TAM. Tam has a nice modern fleet of A330''s and A320''s, Varig has evey Boeing since 1970 and MD-11''s( a real dog of a fllet). Sacrifysing TAM to save Varig is good Rhetoric but lousy practice as history has shown. Varig should go bankrupt. AS TAM expands to pick up the old Varig routes to Europe, the USA and Japan they could hire Varig pilots and F/A( who else in Brazil is trained for those jobs).
