We must dehumanize someone before we can justify the terrible things we are about to do to them.

In grade school, girls had cooties, so it was cool to dip their pigtails in the inkwell, or torment them at dodgeball.

In high school, we ostracized and tormented the geeks, grinds, and spazzes.

Even though WW II was a just war, we had to dehumanize the enemy to enable us to kill them.

We must justify our activities to ourselves - think about the times you've done the wrong thing for the 'right' reasons. This holds true from the small indignities, such as teasing the new kid (who must be publically shown his place in the pecking order), to the horrendous - Hitler was fully justified, in his own mind, to impose the Final Solution.

The unending barrage from management lends credence to my theory something big, and nasty, is up.

For many U employees, the worst is yet to come. Ask the former mainline CLE agents how bad it can get.
