1996 Anderson Accident

I don''t want it to get into a pissing match here 407, I know you feel the need for blame somewhere.
And I know who you''re blaming.
I wanted to highlight the fact that every aircraft has deficiencies. Bell has them, EC has them, Robinson, Sikorsky...they all do. And the problem lies in the fact that they haven''t been discovered yet. When they get discovered, it''s usually because of a tragic accident. Ray may have died, but his death wasn''t in vain. The guards installed after and the new systems, may have prevented many more accidents and/or deaths.
Accidents can be prevented, we all know that, but the mentality of the whole industry is reactive. Most don''t fix what isn''t broken.
To build the best mousetrap in the world is possible, but if that mousetrap now costs too much...it isn''t going to happen.
In the past, levers, and rods, were commom place, now fancy flex cables are replacing them, and further to that, electrical wires are replacing controls. Each new design will have positives and negatives. Look at the evolution of cars for example. The technology is there to build a safe car, but the cost of a car is almost out of reach to the average Joe.
I wish the best to Ray''s family.

Mag, if it "wasn''t broken", then tell me why EC''s BUS-LOAD of high priced Lawyers chose to settle to the request and satisfaction of this little 2 man legal team? The EC legal team are no fly-by-nighters, they know their stuff, they have huge corporate finances, but they did decide to get out early when the "getting was good".

I say that it WAS broken, and if they got in front of a judge, they may have lost a lot more...plus the publicity of a huge settlement!

you''re right, the topic is ended.

You''re tunnel vision astounds me though. You''ve got a clear beef with a particular situation. I know you lost a friend, but I can''t see why you are so hell bent on laying blame with a particular manufacturer, I remember the past when you said you''d wait until the court case ended before you''d let your thoughts out. I knew Ray as well, I knew he was a good pilot. And it''s always the good ones that leave at the wrong time.
I could take this post in any direction you want. But I can see the pain and heartache it''s causing you, and I''ll let it rest.

Yup, I can rant a bit, but They''re gone. Ray was an incredible gent, but it''s the 2 customers who I miss the most, after spending 15 years in the aircraft together with them.

You got it Mag.

I would like to point out that the pictures from Ray''s camera showed Sara and George walking down to the helicopter from the last site before the accident. The background was grey with NO snow. The next picture is of Ray and the helicopter with a grey background and NO snow on the helicopter.
Another thing I would like to say is that CHL. Eastern Div. had particle seperators and Western Div. didn''t at the time of the accident. Unmodified collective area guards were available for Geneva Two-place front seats. What ever was the cause it won''t bring back Ray. I am glad the EC settled and I hope that the widows and families can finally get some closure.
