I watched most of the debates.  And they didn't let me down.  We of course had the obligatory bible thumping prolifers...they didn't bother me as much as their views on the middle east.  Elect a republican and we will pretty much be assured of getting into a "military conflict" in an area of the world where they have been fighting each other since before Christ.  We can certainly end that....we would give them a "common enemy".  And in the Muslim world - "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".   I don't care what sect of Islam you are - none of them like the US.  So we will succeed in uniting them.  If a republican wins in 2016,  I wouldn't go into any building over 10 stories...we will be a target.  They talk about "dirty bombs"....our presence over there will insure that one is used over here.
 
 And of course...to pay for this "strengthening of our military", they will offer tax cuts.   I have a funny feeling that this debt that they have been squealing about for the past 8 years will suddenly be put on a back burner.  Give the rubes a tax cut of less that a weeks worth of groceries for a year (while giving the store owner enough to buy a new mansion) and they are cool with you running up the debt.   Given the choice...having the country go bankrupt because Bernie wants to make life better for everyone, we can go bankrupt while waiting for ISIS to bomb New York and LA.

Here's the thing they miss.... a dollar spent on socialized healthcare adds just as much to the deficit as a dollar spent to kick Iran's butt.  The difference being - the "Marxists" at least advocate taxes to help offset that.  Conservatives don't believe that defense spending adds anything to the debt.  They believe that if you cut funding for food stamps and add that money to the defense budget - you've solved the spending issue, so a tax cut is in order.  
 
hey often times like to compare the national budget to a household budget.  And that's like moving the money from the electric bill over to the cable bill....and the tax cut allows them to buy a six pack to watch the game.  Shifting spending is not cutting spending.  
 
I read a lot about the debt.  Should the country make the mistake of electing a republican in 2016....will the debt still matter.

Wonder if they factor in the money that will be spent on things like the VA? Were still paying for the Vietnam War in that regard.

Don't train any.  Pull every US serviceman and woman out of the middle east today.  That would save a shitload of money right there.  Let them kill each other.  At least if we aren't there, neither side will have a common enemy.  But that's not what I heard the GOP hopefuls calling for....they were going to kick ISIS ass... That got me thinking. Lately I've been seeing on Facebook memes about how there should be a constitutional amendment stating that the president of the US would be required to have served in the military. Of course this has Obama in since he was never in the military.

Instead of that maybe the requirement should be that anyone elected president should have any able bodied family member be drafted into the military. And not some cushy support job in the Pentagon either.
