What's new

427 Position

ah yes, the wonderful RADS sysytem. I never actually saw one ever used. Saw all the brackets that you need to attach it, but that's as far as it went. How big of a price tag for one of those? Is it a standard option or an add on?

I know the ships come pre-wired for RADS, but you can use anything you want. If they already have an 8500 for their airplanes, they can use that. I have no idea what they cost.

All those brackets? You mean the one bracket that holds the optical tracker? You don't have to tag each blade with a target, and the other 'brackets' for the accelerometres would be installed with any newer balancing system, like the 8500 etc. - so what's your point?

I've flown RADS on several hundered aircraft, from 206s to 412s, and I didn't see any issues with it. On a well behaved machine, I've seen the rotor in after the first in-flight move.

Perhaps MagSeal's point is.......they didn't buy a Eurocopter !

CTD:
Is the 427 going to be IFR certified? I didn't see any wiper blades and only one pitot tube in the North Bay pictured 427.

Having done both in the past and at the same time it can be done. That being said Magseal is right there are some things that you need two sets of hands or eyes. IE visual inspections for flight controls, rigging, dual signatures, etc etc. and no they never pay you two salaries for doing two jobs. They might give you an extra $500 per month. And when it gets busy not that corporate every gets busy but say a fire flap there is no way on gods earth that you can do both and be in complience with the regs. Anybody that has done both and gotten busy knows that. PS mag I start my new union job on thurday, will let you know if I see any differences between the new company and the old CHC.

I haven't been involved with, or heard much about the 427 for a couple years. I don't think they're going after IFR certfication for the current model. I know they've just approved going ahead with the 427i, which will be targeting the IFR market.

VFR flight at night out of YHZ ,now, there is a scarcy ideal. Let hope it's the exception rather than the rule. we are talking about the east coast where if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes it will change

oh yes ,yes, yes, the OK days i seem to recall if you where a ame/pilot convert and if you had to do a 100 inspection out in the field while you where away from base you received an extra 100 buck you your troubles.
sorry not qualified for the job, not dual rated, so you are safe by me. as for the flying that depends on what you consider low time flying, but i bet it will be high the first year. new toy an all.
The position is for a pilot/ame so i'm wondering where the second pilot endorsed on type is coming from. Maybe they should be looking for a pilot with a rotor and stiff wing licence then they could get an engineer .

If they do go after IFR certification, I hope they add glass windows up front. Plastic windows do not like to be stroked.....

I've been flying on the East Coast off and on since 1988 with both fixed wing and rotary. There certainly are scarier places to fly night VFR. Sounds like this 427 is going to be well suited for the environment. As for needing an extra set of eyes or hands and feet during maintenance, I know a lot of local drivers that could get talked into helping there, myself included.

Seems the company has airplanes too, so there's probably a few engineers around as well.

Man some of you guys can fund negative in anything. Brand new helicopter, new opportunity, supposedly good company, and all you can do it find something wrong.

SOB, I'm jealous. Can you be my new God? I'll worship you and the chariot you ride. All you need now is to start a post of your travels and we'll all drool over the road grime on your wheels. If you ever plan a trip north, you better stop in and show off the shiny parts.

3BX2....I'm not even going there on that one.

CTD... don't get your panties in a knot, "all" can be anything from one to infinity. I'm guessing you hadn't seen a CHL Strobe kit lately, because I think they had every single bracket for every single helicopter in the fleet with each kit. 😀

SOB - nice scooter. Is it in Canuckistan or do you have it down south with you?

Maggie - no knotted knickers here, and you're right - I haven't seen the inside of a CHL strobe kit in a very long time 😀
