$45 A Barrel Oil On The Way....

I think I remember during the merger announcement, management said that they could be profitable with $50/bl. Now that it is above $70 with no relief in sight, is the merger still viable?

"Moreover?" Did I miss something? Why the segue into "information" about UA? What does that have to do with anything on this thread?

Unbelievable.

Bear96 & 700UW,

He's just trying to bait people to come here and discuss his favorite obsession. There is no basis in fact for this rumor, since as you pointed out, Ted is not a separate entity. Just some mainline planes painted, reconfigured, and marketed differently.

Next he'll be claiming that UA will sell off its PS service from JFK.

This is pure speculation and "pie-in-the-sky" talk among wishful thinkers on the outside.

The fact is that it really burns USA320reservepilot that UA has the backing and confidence of the biggest financial institutions in the world. You see, for many months he claimed that UA will need an equity investor in order to emerge, and claimed that UA didn't have a viable business plan. Now that there is a "stunning" $3Billion on the table of all-debt financing for UA, it has proven him wrong once again. So he must fabricate another rumor (or at least spread a false rumor fabricated by some one else's imagination) to divert attention from his error. Don't bite the bait. There is no truth to this claim whatsoever.

No this President just set the record for the most time on vacation passing another republican ronnie reagen.

And remember whenever Bush took Air Force on a campaign trip, which he set another record, he only rembursed the tax payers the cost of a first class ticket, remember $35,000 an hour to keep the 747 in the air.

And yes it is ok for her to do it as she is worth millions and pays for it.

Busdriver,
Oh, and forget actually making SERIOUS efforts at finding alternative fuel sources or....here's an incredibly novel idea.....forcing the auto manufacturers to increase the gas mileage of their products by a meaningful amount and wean Americans off of their gas guzzlers.

Here's an idea. Let the market force auto manufacturers to increase the mileage of their product. Let the price of gas continue to rise and people will stop buying gas-guzzlers on their own. Keep the Govt. out of it............... :)

Never mind that basically ANY resource can be totally depleted if not used wisely and that other generations down the road may want a little of it.

No, it CAN'T be totally depleted.  WE determine reserve levels at certain price points.  At $40 a B there is a certain amount that is "economically viable", while at $500, there is significantly more.  Oil is a CHEMICAL, NOT an element.  Even if we did the impossible and used every ounce of the stuff in the ground, we could actually MAKE more.  Not "cheap" of course, but possible.  Likewise, with the exception of Uranium that is "burned" via a fision reaction, and metals sent outside the planet via space exploration, mined metals and minerals don't go away.  They are contained in items.  If in the future the mined products are too expensive, then recycling takes over.

Generations down the road would likely perfer we leave them a vibrant economy that grew instead of a depressed economy with plenty of oil.

(past tense operative word in bold)

At $500/barrel, the generations down the road will wonder what it was like to have a growing economy while theirs is stuck in a permanent recessionary state.

Trading in your Yukon XL is not going to damage the economy of future generations.

Oh, and forget actually making SERIOUS efforts at finding alternative fuel sources or.

Like what?  It's easy to talk in platitudes.  Be specific.

There are no feasible alternative fuels for today's automobiles. This is why conservation is important.

How?  Will they finally dust of the legendary "100 MPG Carberator"?  By forcing certain milage standards, you FORCE people to buy something they didn't want.  When you "wean" someone off of their "gas guzzlers", you are taking away their CHOICE.

Wrong. Raising mileage standards refers to the average MPG of cars produced; raising it means rationing the SUV's to fewer people. You still have choice but it will cost you. It beats having to drill your own oil.

Wrong. Growing the economy also means more and more advances.

Trading it in? You mean so someone else can drive it?

Completely uninformed. Almost every SUV sold in Colorado comes E-85 equiped. Converting a vehicle to CNG is extremely easy. BioD is in many ways superior to PetroD and is mixed with PetroD in many states to meet emissions standards. I never said conservation wasn't important. But it is only PART of the equation. Conservation alone means we become even more beholden t OPEC oil in the future.

WHICH MEANS TAKING AWAY CHOICE!!! If you made abortion legal but charged $1,000,000 per 'procedure', would you be taking away 'choice'? ABOSOLUTELY.

Now go back to your whinning about unions and industry pay being too high.... <_<
