7 day coverage nonsense

IMHO, 7 day coverage is coming to an overhaul base near you. It`s pretty much a given that is what we will evolve into. Most guys I talk to understand it, don`t like it but understand. I can only speak for those I work with at AFW, but our concern is the inability to use our senority. Set a 24/7 schedule and let us bid our shifts/days off. The overriding mentality however of being "FAIR" is a show stopper. Those of us that are senior have done our time on undesirable shifts/days off. Bring on the 24/7 and bring the BID with it !

Looks like all the 737 Retro Mod lines are going 7 day coverage! CRAP!

You should be thankful you get paid $32 an hour, Timco makes $17 an hour, AAR $20.

I say separate contracts for line mechanics and for overhaul mechanics. Just like Tech has a separate contract for us.

I don't really think you know what they get paid, it is more than that, per diem, etc. I don't really think you would like those wages once you get bumped from your station. Careful what you wish for.

Here is paragraph f of article 3

ARTICLE 3 – HOURS OF WORK

(f) At stations or shops where employees are required to maintain continuous operation of departments or assignments, days off may either be fixed or rotated in accordance with the preference of a majority of the employees involved, consistent with the requirements of the service. When fixed days off are selected, seniority will determine days off.

The way I read this you do have a choice, like the last sentance of paragraph f states "senority will determine days off". So if it were me, I'd bring a motion at the next union meeting on wheather you want 4/10s, 5/8s, fixed or rotating shifts, fixed or rotating days off, etc. If someone seconds the motion, you vote on the motion at the next meeting. It's in the current contract, use it.

I'm curious to see how the OH guys would bid, for fixed days off or rotating days off (changes every 4 weeks)?

Thanks for your concern, but the seniority at TUL and AFW isn't that high.

How many guys would leave TUL to be permanently based at ORD? During the layoffs, we always get a few TUL guys, and I enjoyed working with them, (real good guys) but at the first opportunity, they always go back to TUL. The operative word here is "permanently" as in never going back to TUL. DFW has higher seniority then ORD,BOS LGA/JFK, MIA,LAS, or SFO, you all can't go there. Be careful where you go, you might be on nights forever with Tuesday Wednesday off or get in a day off rotation where you don't get any holidays off, then if you're on the night shift you have to worry about the morning commute, big cities have a lot of traffic between 0630-0900 in the morning, so pick someplace to live where you're not fighting traffic.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here, maybe OH stays part of AA, but until then this all rumor.

I say seperate contracts, then the line guys won't have to supplement OH life style anymore. That way OH can stand on their own merits, they might do better then line maint, if the management ever gets 3rd party maint. and uses the work force efficiently. AA OH is second to none in the qaulity of work, should be easy to market. COL use to pay more to use UAL OH for their 737's, until UAL did a work action, and they weren't getting the planes out fast anymore. Then UAL closed IND.

I spent my first six years at ORD. Rotating days off sucked. But with low seniority, it did give me the opportunity to get a weekend off every once in a great while. I don't miss my work schedule while I was on the line.

Imagine that, an employee working for an airline being asked to work the same days of the week that the company operates...

Shocking, I tell you. Simply shocking.

Excellent point, Eric!

So by that comment, maybe NO ONE ON AA'S PAYROLL SHOULD HAVE WEEKENDS OFF! HOLIDAYS? From Arpey on down?

Is that shocking?
And please spare me that those at the top are on call 24/7.....

Every dept should have 7 day coverage..............

Our managers at ORD always have to carry their company blackberry with them. If something important happens I'm sure Horton hears about it right then, not like us when we hear about it the next time we punch in. If one of our international departures cancels or is delayed significantly at ORD, I'm sure our area director knows about it. I've seen our managers look into it, so they can send an email right away to her.

Yes, they carry their company blackberry,,,,,But in all my years here, I have never seen ONE SUPERVISOR, SHIFT MANAGER OR MANAGER in on ANY HOLIDAY OR WEEKEND WHERE THEY DID NOT WORK A DEAL OUT WITH ANOTHER SUPERVISOR OR SHIFT MANAGER to be off in exchange for a different day.

How about this Duke, give me a blackberry and I'll stay home weekends and holidays unless needed for full pay
