Joe Leonards interview w/ ATW 9/05...He thinks if oil goes to 80.00 for 3 months it should be enough to get rid of some of his tottering competitors..what a retard this guy is. Competition is competition, but to wish massive unemployment is so freekin Unamerican...His claim of over capacity is true, but who the hell is adding the capacity, the NewKids on the Block, thats who..This idiotic moron wont come out and say it, but I think the HP/US merger is keeping him up at night.

If the LCC's like Southwest, JetBlue, AirTran, and Spirit were not expanding we would not have today's problems because there would be pricing power. What is creating the over capacity is people like Leonard.

What type of person is Leonard who wants to see another company scale back or liquidate and its employees suffer? Leonard's time is coming.

Meanwhile, it is likely Leonard will not like today's news from OPEC.

There is pricing power. Unfortunately, it's with the LCCs at the bottom end. They set the bar on the low end.

The greed of "pricing power" is what contributed to the majors all taking a nosedive post-9/11. The belief that an airline seat (commodity, really) is somehow worth 20x what it costs to actually produce it.

The overcapacity thing is a myth. "Pricing power" is what allowed the LUVs and B6s and FLs of the world to grow and thrive. If the majors go back to their old pricing ways, it's simply going to delay the inevitable (although Leonard is right--$80 oil would help that along, somewhat).

Could not have said it better, ClueByFour. There is no overcapacity since the seats are being filled. Competition, however brutal, only helps the consumer.

Anyway, he is probably more afraid of DL reducing costs to his levels while in bankruptcy and hopes they will shut down thanks to $80 oil. I don't think he is particularly worried about a new self-declared LCC named US Airways.

I really like Airtran my uncle fly's the 717's but just to want barrel prices to rise isn't gonna help him, if he wants the small carriers to leave them fly their routes don't pray for other airlines just to fail. 🙄 I think Airtran is growing rapidly and expanding their A/C but with this we may not see much of at least DL, UA, US, and NW its really sad because my Papa is a retired Delta pilot and alot of his pension just went down the toliet.

Oh yea anyone know how much a Delta Share is right now because I have one. 😳

Actually, AirTran's competion is not Delta. On most routes AirTran competes against US Air, and FlyI.

So, US has never increased capacity? Or is it okay for a legacy to increase seats, just not an LCC?

How about get your cost in line with what the present day economy will support, hopefully US/AWA will be able to achive this.

As far as Air Tran adding flights to the Phl - BOS market. I say bring it on. Even though ALL our flights aren't full. We are just protecting our market share by having them hourly during the week.
