World Trade Center lawsuits filed ahead of deadline (AMR, UALAQ) By Mike Maynard
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- A pair of last-minute lawsuits growing out the Sept. 11, 2001, suicide attack on New York's World Trade Center in which nearly 3,000 people died coincide with the attack's third anniversary. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the agency that owned the World Trade Center site, said it will join as a plaintiff in a suit filed a week ago by bond-trading firm Cantor Fitzgerald, which is suing Saudi Arabia among nearly 100 defendants including Osama bin Laden, fugitive leader of terrorist group al-Qaida. Eighty-four Port Authority workers died in the attack, in which two-thirds of Cantor Fitzgerald's employees were killed. In the second suit, Australia-based QBE International Insurance and some Lloyd's of London underwriters are taking American Airlines (AMR) and United Airlines (UALAQ) to court, seeking more than $300 million from each carrier over negligence that they contend led to the jet hijackings. The lawsuits were filed in federal court ahead of a three-year statute of limitations deadline that goes into effect today.

Well isn't that the way it is nowadays, sue someone who has deep pockets, forget the fact that 3000 people just vanished off the face of the earth. Tell you what people, there are only two things make make the world go round, 1-FEAR, 2-GREED, this a perfect example of Greed. Yep we got to make the bottom line look good for the BOD's and the stock holders, well I say BS, Those insurance companies took the risk for financial gain, too bad they lost this claim. What ever happened to taking responsibility for ones actions, yeah we're gonna sue the livin sh++ outta them airlines. Yeah yeah and if the ICEBERG hadn't been there the TITANIC would'nt have gone down either. All I've got to say is the people who filed these lawsuits , WELL I WON'T SAY WHAT THEY ARE, BUT THEY KNOW.
God bless all those who lost their lives on 9/11 and their families and Osama if you or 1 or your a-hole buddies read this may our troops find you and shove a 5lb charge of C4 up your butt and set it off, coward.
To the passengers and crews of the AMERICAN and UNITED flights, WE WILL NEVER FORGET. :( :( :(

They should sue them selves for not demanding better security at our airports, freight stations, rail roads.... etc. This crap they have now is not much better but ATO security let them by, not us.

OH yea, I forgot, they did not want to be inconvenienced by more thorough security screenings. Bunch of dumb asses!

It should be interesting if it ever gets in front of a jury. A few years before 9-11 there was a big push to improve airport security, word is that the airlines lobbied hard against it. Nothing was done until after 9-11. The question is would those 3000 still be alive today if the initiatives mentioned back in the 90s had been put in place? Its not as if 9-11 was the first time that terrorists used airplanes as a weapon. Remember Lockerbie? Some believe TWA was also terrorism, despite the governments claim that it was not.
