What other companies were in Cheney's pocket?
I never really researched the connection between Halliburton and Cheney.
It was either Bush I or Reagan that has 3 Cabinet members who were former executives with Bechtel Corp. and I don't recall the near non stop drum beat.
Here is a snippet of what I found on Bechtel.
William Casey, who served in three Republican administrations (Chairman of the Security and Exchange Commission under Nixon, as head of the Export-Import Bank under Ford, and as campaign manager and head of the CIA under Reagan) served as a consultant for Bechtel.31
Caspar Weinberger, Secretary of Defense in the Reagan Administration, was Bechtel's general counsel and served on the company's board from 1975 to 1981.
George Shultz, Bechtel board member and senior counsel. Between serving as Nixon's Secretary of Treasury and Reagan's Secretary of State, he spent eight years as Bechtel's president and director. He returned to Bechtel after his term as Secretary of State ended. Shultz also served a stint (appointed Winter 2002) on the Defense Policy Board, an elite group that advises Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on matters including the war against
Iraq.
Halliburton is not even close to alone. The biggest single contract they were awarded was 680 million which while significant pales compared to nearly 17 Billion in Annual Sales. So to say they had billions in profits from the war is just not true. Did they engage in crony capitalism? YES they did. But I've never been able to find a more plugged in company than Bechtel. At least on the Republican side.
