You're right, df. This is what people should be talking about - the reduction of mainline flying to international/transcon/other long haul and the growth of AE in its place. This low cost carrier flap is nothing but an anxious reporter breaking a story on an old analysis.

If the pilots agree to combine seniority lists with AE in exchange for RJ growth, you might see AA/AE as a whole grow while AA shrinks. If they don't, then you might see a spun off AE become another American Connection carrier. AA would still shrink.

This is a more relevant conversation than the low cost carrier scenario.

Problem with using Eagle as LCC is RJ's. Why fly AA RJ or prop when one can fly WN or Airtran bigboy jet with luggage space, more room, free booze, and no bus to remote terminal at $299 max cost

Is it that difficult to start a new thread, if in your opinion there is a "more relevant conversation" to be had?

This may be true, but what if instead of creating a LCC within American, Eagle is allowed to fly 100 seat aircraft. Since Either proposal would require a change to the APA contract, we might as well use Eagle so we don't need to create an additional management structure.

One of the things SONG will be doing is not offering pension plans to employees. There will be a 401k but no company match.

true and false... Song will not offer a pension plan to employees, however, There is a 7.5% company match on the 401k in CASH if you are a founder of Song, meaning Hired in the original hiring waves. I just had my interview and this was discussed in detail, thank you very much!

It appears that you are saying that only the "founding" employees will receive a company match for their 401k. However, any "new" employees would not receive a matching 401k. Is that true?

It looks as if AA has seen the light- with this low cost unit, if it comes to fruition, could fill the gap of the west coast/western US..If the issue before and the prevoius pull out from the west was cost-due to WN...AA could have a shot. Would be good news for FF and employees out west who have been hungering for a real commitment by AA. If this happens AA could finally face the deamons of completing its route network with some point to point out here and some feed for future pacific routes...we will see.....

Founders receive an additional 3% company match, so anyone hired not as a founder would receive a 4.5% company match. On a side note, there were over 2,000 applicants among current DL f/a's for 860 positions.
