Yeah, that's a reach. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see AirTran snatch up a chunk of assets should a pilot strike occur and liquidation follow. I think the author is suggesting that AirTran would want to acquire Delta's brand name and then become 'Valujet dba Delta' as opposed to 'Valujet dba AirTran' (which is what their current operating certificate says).

The article doesn't say that FL would buy DL in the event DL doesn't survive bankruptcy. It says FL would be a likely candidate to buy the NAME and selected pieces of Delta.
It notes that FL has already done this once, when it was ValuJet.
I don't think this is a very likely scenario, but if there is anyone who would want to buy the NAME, then the most likely candidate would be FL since it already has a sizeable hub at ATL and because the name carries more weight there than anywhere else.

Let's face it, this guy is on crack and not the good kind!!!! Now in his world of fantasy, he fails to point out that Bill Gates will meet the first FL Flight to SEA next Month, is so impressed, he decides to buy it all. Next thing you know, Luvthe9 is made Chief Pilot, Chapter 12 is now the head of PR, WT is made Director of Runway Lights pointing in a Thousand different directions... DeletedbyModerator is heading up the Debate Team for further Governmental issues, NH/BB is finding Fishing spots for future customers <Elite Travelers> and Love2Fly and the rest are all Managerial positions to be decided. To finalize this pretend endeavor, WNrforlife has been chosen to be the Lav Truck Operator as he seems most qualified for the job.... Now, Best name for this new Airline gets a Date with a Super Model of your choice...

Boston-Maine airways bought the Pan Am name IIRC, and that got them absolutely nowhere. Granted it's a different situation, but were I to be at the wheel of FL, I wouldn't pay much for the Delta name.... not to mention severe brand recognition problems.
