DL orders (up to) 70 CRJ-900's

WT I have to agree, the CRJ's suck (no matter what version of aircraft), the ERJ's are better.
As a side note, the Q400 is pretty nice to work with.
I presume you mean the E jets and not the ERJ as in ERJ 135/140/145.

The ERJs have certainly got to be considered even more inferior from a ramp perspective than the CRJ family.

Remember also that the CR9 operating for DL and most other US network carriers is operating at about 15% less than it could do to mainline pilot restrictions. 12 fewer seats makes the CR9 comparable in comfort to other aircraft from a passenger perspective and still makes alot of the "negatives" of the aircraft less important because there are fewer passengers and bags to deal with than the airframe would otherwise support.

The CR9 is a stretch of an original airframe while the E75 is still one of the smaller versions of the E jet family. The Ejet would be more attractive if airlines wanted a true 100-120 seater where the Ejet's economics would look better. If you move into that class of jet, then Canadair would like to sell you the new C series jet which undoubtedly is a far more enjoyable aircraft on a number of perspectives.

DL still could order about 30 more large RJs based on limits of the pilot contract but those likely cannot be delivered until closer to 2014 when the final group of 717s arrive which DL has decided is the most cost-efficient way to have a 100 seater at mainline.

If their pilot contracts are approved, AA and UA will undoubtedly be making fleet decisions regarding large RJs in the near future and they both have potentially far larger numbers of aircraft they could order. Embraer is very likely to get a piece of at least some of their orders, as will Canadair.
All told, DL will still have a fairly large number of Ejets in their "fleet" compared to its US network peers.

have you worked a NextGen RJ? I haven't been on one but apparently there are some w/ DCI.

I have. Apparently most all of the current CR9 fleet is next gen.

Nope.

Both suck, but the 145 wins due to it's lack of forward cargo bins.

BTW, Chautauqua is implementing (or starting to enforce?) a "no carry ons at all in the cabin" policy.

operating for Delta?

You have GOT to be kidding?

where is the dividing line between purse/backpack/diaper bag?

Yes, Delta.

No, I'm not kidding. Starts 12/20.

Diaper bags are exempted (when traveling with an infant).

Purses aren't explicitly mentioned in the policy update, but since it says "carry on baggage," I think it's fair to say that no agent is going to try and make someone check a normal sized one.

I didn't really think you were kidding.

Here is the text from Delta.com regarding carry-on baggage.

Passengers traveling on Delta Connection flights - those flights with fifty (50) seats or less - are only permitted to carry personal items on board the aircraft due to limited overhead space. Personal items must be able to fit securely under the seat in front of the passenger. All carry-on bags within Delta's size restrictions will be gate checked, free of charge, during the boarding process and returned upon deplaning. Please ensure that a pick Gate Claim/Planeside tag is securely attached to the carry-on item.

If Chautauqua is imposing its own restrictions above and beyond those, then I will stand at the boarding door and pass out complaint forms... and I sincerely hope that there isn't someone in ATL who allowed them to do this.

Did DL not just take on a half dozen or so ERJ 135s or so for a year, undoubtedly as part of renegotiating their agreeement w/ DL? Is this the thanks you get or does it mean that they know they are finished and are now willing to pick a fight about any and everything?

Keep us posted.... this stinks.

This policy is for ALL CARRIERS, not just DL

you mean all regional carriers operating for all network carriers or Chautauqua's decision affecting all of the carriers it serves?

help me understand... what is the scope of this change - aircraft types, carriers.

For all carriers that use Chautauqua's fleet, so say if you are flying UAX with Chautauqua, no carry ons, while if your flight is operated by Trans States, or ExpressJet, you will be able to take carry ons on board.

you truly have to wonder what they are smoking to think they will unilaterally change the carry-on policy for the regional carrier industry and expect larger carriers to continue to give them business.

Maybe the network carriers are going to let it go into effect, allow the customer complaints to go thru the roof, and then let the penalties kick in....

BTW, Chautauqua is implementing (or starting to enforce?) a "no carry ons at all in the cabin" policy.

This must refer to bags that clearly won't fit. Chautauqua won't want to take responsibility for purses, laptops, medicines, etc. It would be a legal nightmare if Chautauqua forced that stuff to be checked and if something were to then be lost or broken.

Yeah. We heard about the Chautauqua policy on UAX. Makes no sense to me. But with the increasing amount of gate checks (avg. 30-35) on a 145, maybe they want to have quicker turn times. But that won't work. You just have to deal with it. Stack accordingly! With the 145's we have, there is a higher volume of gate checks, so you have to factor that in when loading. I'll take a 145 over a 170 any day of the week. I watch B6 load their 190's and I feel for those guys. But the gate check volume is much lower (except for strollers and car seats). But hitting your head on that grate at the door brings back "Mad Dog" flashbacks. Anybody who has worked on a MD knows what I'm talking about.... everybody had bumps on their heads due to those doors. I'm glad we got rid of ours a long time ago.

BTW: Working on the 319's & 320's are nice. But that's a rarity on the gates I work on. 800's with no carpet and only 2 agents. Fun.

Also, we don't get any CRJ's of any type here, but they've painted stop lines for them (for diversions). But it seems like we will be soon getting some larger CRJ's once the pilot deal is done. Isn't there are forward bin on a 900? It seems there is one on a 700.
