But - doesn't it appear that AA is moving into the "cash-burn" position similar to what Carty did before breaking the "Bad News"?
No.
In most of 2002 and early 2003, AA was burning about $5 million of cash each day, spending $5 million more each day than it brought in. In the first quarter of this year, AA brought in $5 million more cash each day than it spent. Cash generated from operations was $449 million in Q1.
It doesn't appear to me that AA is moving into any cash-burn position. YMMV.
AA's got 4x as much cash, half the long and short term debt, and fuel is 3x more expensive... Other than that, yep, it sure is like 2003.
