American Airlines' parent AMR Corp. on Friday said it expects second-quarter passenger revenue to grow compared with last year.

Second-quarter mainline passenger unit revenue is expected to increase between 3 percent and 4 percent, while consolidated passenger unit revenue, which includes the nation's largest carrier's regional affiliates, is expected rise between 2.2 percent and 3.2 percent, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

AMR in April reported first-quarter revenue of $5.43 billion.

"We expect to end the second quarter with a cash and short-term investment balance over $6 billion, including nearly $500 million in restricted cash and short-term investments," according to the filing. AMR also said that when June ends, it expects it will have paid an average of $2.11 per gallon for fuel in the quarter, and that the price will rise a penny per gallon for the year.
