Interesting. I note a few trends in the way people are choosing to invest their 401(k) funds, at least from 12/31/01 through 12/31/02...

Equities of all sorts fell out of favor.
Bonds became more popular (lower returns but more safety).
Cash (credit union demand deposits) became more popular (even greater safety but even crappier returns).
Participant loans increased pretty sharply, I suppose it''s a symptom of a bad economy when more people are making the boneheaded move of borrowing against their 401(k).
Investment in AMR stock more than doubled, in spite of the obviously difficult times that the company is going through.

Interesting stuff.

Not sure, but I think the point is that many of the investments are managed by the AAdvantage family of funds - and that''s supposed to cause everyone to gasp at the "conflict of interest" or some such nonsense.

That''s where 401(k) participants have chosen to invest their funds. I''m not sure what the "conflict of interest" would be.

I''m sure it all boils down to how evil management is and how if the TWU wasn''t around, it would all be better. And don''t forget about how great things were at TWA.

That was what I got out of it too. Which raises the question, "So what?"
If the individual plan participants choose to put their money there, more power to them. What are we missing here WNP? You don/t just post "gee whiz" stuff, it all has to do with how evil AMR is. So what are we all missing?
