Just heard today that AMR plans to emulate Delta. That's all I was told. Management was told this. Any more info out there??I don't know it they are talking about the BK stuff or their operations in general.

In one of our Crew Chief meetings last month here in TUL, we were shown a video of how Delta was bringing much of their maintenance in house. Everything appeared to be on the schedule from componets to what I gathered some heavy airframe.....
It did not cross my mind that it could be a signal from management of copying Delta.

AA told flight employees today that free beer and wine returns in economy class in two weeks (Feb 1) on international flights. That matches Delta, no? Maybe that's the buzz everyone is talking about.

The free beer and wine move was more to emulate (note spelling) our OneWorld partners. Seems they were getting complaints--i.e., get off BA flight where it was free, then get on an AA flight where it was not. That DL and UA also do it was sort of coincidental.

Free beer and wine is coming back to US int'l in coach as well.

To emulate DL would be to restructure a/c and rent costs. To drop a pension. Merge with another airline to gain market share. Repaint airplanes. And have a different mangement.

So we get to deal with the football and rugby hooligans connecting thru MIA on AA coming from EZE to LHR and meanwhile, the Premium passengers are flying BA metal non-stop LHR to EZE.

At least that is the version I see connecting in MIA to LHR and MAD.

DL outsources most of their HMV visits and brings in other airlines planes to work on.

How is that cost effective? Delta gets their overhauls cheaper than they can charge themselves?

You have to ask someone that works for them, I questioned this practice too, but they outsource more of their HMVs then they do of their own.

As I stated, the video we were shown showed a growing trend of bring their (DL) own maintenance back in house. I would like to be able share the video but it is in managements hands. Outsourcing just might have been a trendy way of saving now only to pay later. The TIMCO's of the world most likely cannot maintain multiple fleets of multiple airlines without major scutiny.

Buck, they do their own engines in-house but outsource most of their HMVs but insource third party work.
