Then out of the other side of his mouth he gives this little tidbit to the ATA Smartbrief via USA Today. If nwa trims flight schedules in stations then why hire 5,000 orkers to handle the stations?

Northwest CEO responds to suggestion for trimming schedules
Northwest Airlines CEO Douglas Steenland favors reducing congestion by trimming airline schedules at the country's most affected airports. But, he said, "If we do nothing, the problem (with delays) will simply continue to compound." Steenland added that any delay-reducing plan would need to include corporate jets, which also contribute to congestion. USA TODAY (9/17)

NWA is hiring up to 5,000 workers

5,000 jobs

If NW is looking to add these 5,000 positions (including CSA's and ESE's) systemwide, does that mean they are admitting that their outsourcing experiment for those spots at the outstations was a failure? 🙄

Let's see: Slash the Maintenance Department to nothing. Outsource the majority of your stations. Alienate your customers. Now hire 5000 people? To do what? At $9.00/hr!

One can only hope...

Why don't they just call back all the experienced people they displaced, let them keep their buyout money, and invite them back to their old jobs at their former pay rate, admitting they screwed up. 🙄

Have they increased the signing bonuses as well???

...Two part-time employees count as one full-time equivalent employee in the agency's tally. Northwest Airlines, for instance, is advertising $1,500 signing bonuses for part-time baggage handlers in several cities, including Seattle, New York and Denver. These positions, which start at $9 an hour and include medical benefits, offer 20 to 25 hours of work a week.

Business speak/ploy.
Similar to the ‘perceived’ pilot and mechanic shortage, They put out a ‘job’ offer that is economically untenable to qualified people then go to the DOL with the ‘report’ that there is not enough US Citizens to fill the need. This allows them to seek employees outside of the country that meets the ‘qualifications’ (cheap) and willingness to work for the compensation package (which we all know is a downwardly moving target).

Though AA did "this" in a non bankruptcy way, the 2 situations a eerily similiar.(I know, It's how a came to AA in 86')

With AA, before 9/85, it was Dam near impossible to get hired at AA.
Ahh, but once the "No Nads'..Twu" GAVE AA a C scale contract, employeement went bonkers.

Perhaps the only difference, was that AA was Creating union staffed stations, unlike the NW way of outsourcing.

Because that would make too much sense.

We keep hearing rumblings about a few cities being re-opened, but I'll believe it when I see it.

As an aside, I'd like to know why the IAM is allowing BDL to remain outsourced even though it is now a Gateway. I still haven't received a good answer to that.
