DSM-1 Homosexuality was a mental illness. 2 it was classified as a subject that needed more research. Guess what? Some people in the psychiatric profession are gay. Where does their influence come into play on the DSM bullcrap? Yes they will classify themselves as mentally ill. Suuure they will.

The folks on the right always seem to bring up  the fact that the DSM took homosexuality out of the manual but they never seem to question how it got in there in the first place.  I am sure that there were exhaustive studies which were peer reviewed.  Kind of like the studies that said African Americans had lower cranial capacity than Caucasians.  Perhaps it was similar to the studies that claimed the earth was the center of the universe.  
 
Psychology changes all the time.  New things are discovered, other things are disproved.  Not sure why people are so hung up on change.

How it got in there in the FIRST one is that homosexuality was a deviant behavior from the normal. The reason it got taken out was because the psychiatric community is made up of prominent homosexuals.

Hey! On this subject, I clearly don't have an opinon either way,  pro, or con, and woudn't make such a direct statement as to what is, or isn't, a misconception about any of it! But if people on this board profess to know better, I'm just asking for a liittle background to see if in deed they know what their talking about.

Personal experience. My major in college was psychiatry and my field of study was community mental health. DSM-1 diagnosed anything that deviates from the "NORM" as ABNORMAL. Since homosexuality has become a norm, I've seen many of my teachers and friends slip out of the "closet!"
If you look at the evolution of the DSM you will see that there is no precise formula to human nature because times are a changing when it comes to (human) nature!

Reagan believed anything can be cured with a pill. That is why I left the psychiatric industry. Want more?
