All IM saying is don't touch our private sector SS and Medicare until this inequity is fixed.

Before you really get stupid, you do realize that your SS and Medicare tax are paying for the current retirees and not for yourself? Technically the gov can't touch yours because you aren't entitled to them until retire 😛

We don’t mean to pick on public-sector pension funds. Certainly, private sector pension funds can be just as underfunded as public-sector pension funds. There is, however, a big difference. An unrealistically generous private-sector pension fund (one with over zealous return-on-investment assumptions, or too small an employer/employee contribution) may simply put a company out of business. At some point, the company may not be able to pass along the high cost to its customers (think pre-bail-out General Motors). An unrealistically, generous public-sector pension fund, on the other hand, doesn’t really ding the government that employs its members. It simply dings the taxpayer.

Because governments can’t go out of business, the taxpayers will ultimately pick up the shortfall. Public sector unions have succeeded in many localities in making it illegal for government to adjust the employee contribution to cover these shortfalls.

I couldn't figure out why you are not standing up for your US Airways co-workers on this one 700, then I saw this.

I stood up for my US Airways Members for the IAM M&R during negotiations, I am a trade unionist, you dont take from one labor group to give another, a concept you fail to understand.

Where have you been for the past 20 years while the airline workers were taking hits, I worked for my members and did the best I could, but when people dont put in office labor friendly politicians, nothing will change.

I have been to the Senate, and the House to lobby on behalf of Airline Employees, where were you?

I stood up for my members for 17 years, what have you done?

I made sacrifices, been away from home for a week or two at time, what have you done?

Funny I didnt see you on this board in 2002/2003 when the pilots lost their pension, nor havent seen you on this board in 2005 when the rest of the workers lost their pension.

Your about six to nine years too late.

And keep avoiding the questions or points made to you.

Don't work for EN but I care about their SS and I was an active shop steward for many years. I support my "private sector union" as much as possibly. But I remain independent, I don't drink anybodies koolaid. And I don't want my SS and Medicare touched before the Government sector is brought inline with us. Because eventually it comes out of my entitlements, the ones I worked for, paid into and earned. I lost my private sector pension and retirement health-care I can't afford to lose what little I have left. Have you look at some of these sweetheart backroom deals they get? Even the peons that post here get far better than we do?

Where were you when Ronald Reagen took your Social Security and also raised the full collection age to 67?

Where were you when the pilots lost their pension?

Where were you when the agents pension was frozen in 92?

Where were you in 05 when the rest of us had our pensions terminated?

17 pages is enough info ..... Our co-workers will have to decide for themselves. I say put "public sector pensions into a PBGC style plan before introducing anything close to the Ryan plan. 44-54 year old's will have to come up with $6000.00 Out-Of-Pocket per year for Medicare under the Ryan plan. If the PBGC and Ryan plan is good enough for us it's good enough for public servants.

I have the answer to fixing SS, medicare, and pensions. We need to make it so our politicians from Senators, Congressman, presidents and vice presidents get what we get for medical care, SS, and have their pensions "guaranteed" by the pbgc. This idea that our politicians are an elite group and deserve more than the average citizen is baloney. When the government shuts down for lack of money then all must share the pain including the Washington elite and government workers.

I doubt we will ever see Congress reduce their own compensation and benefits package in any way. The only way we might ever see Congress, and the federal government in general, truly reigned in is to have the states call for an Article V convention and judiciously amend the constitution to reign in the federal government once and for all. Collectively, the states have the power to put a stop to this, but they seem to lack the collective willpower to act. It would take two-thirds of the state legislatures (34 state legislatures) to request an Article V convention, and then Congress would be obliged to convene one. Amendments proposed would require three-quarters of the states (38) to ratify amendments proposed. Will it happen? Not likely, but that's the only way other than through Congress to propose a constitutional amendment.

Not true....Given the tools they have to work with, they are some of the best in the business, what I do find funny is that not one of your coworkers has backed you claim of blame...
