I have a friend considering applying for employment with Jet Blue. From the job description: "When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft."I can just picture a B6 employee flying with his family to MCO to visit Disney World. As the a/c arrives he tells his wife "Honey, you go on with the kids......I'll meet you at the hotel because I have to stay behind to clean the lav." WTF? This is unbelievable. Does it actually happen often?

It takes no time at all when everyone pitches in. 5 - 10 minutes.

Non-reving on thru flights I would always help cross seatbelts and pick up on the way out. It's called teamwork...Believe it or not we actually had a few pilots that would also help out. (and they weren't just looking for a newspaper.) 😛

I also remember on many occasions straightening up the cabin and seatbelts... especially if I was nonreving... I mean, why not? It's the same philosophy as picking up a piece of garbage in your neighbor's yard and disposing of it. You just do it.

You should never be asked but are you too good to help your fellow crewmembers out for two or three minutes?

Shame on you!

We do it at Frontier, TEAM WORK! What company do you fly with there AgMedallion??? Remember Ag there is no I in Team Work!

To answer your question, my spouse used to work for Useless Airways, where employees are liabilities, not assets (don't get me started). I have NO problem with helping out with straightening seatbelts, etc. I pictured dirtier work like cleaning the lav. Although I have never flown them (I'm strictly AA), I have no gripe against Jet Blue and, in fact, have only heard/read good things about them.

Can I assume that flight crews, after their trips are completed, will help out gate and ticket counter agents, e.g. queing lines, checking BPs, etc.? Also help baggage handlers load/unload? Or is this "help your fellow employees" camaraderie strictly a one way street?

Not at all...

"Light cleaning" doesn't involve cleaning lavs...just crossing seatbelts, emptying out seatback pockets, and picking up pillows and blankets. It literally takes only a few minutes. Anything requiring more than a quick straighten and clean is handled by folks with the appropriate tools.

I would not "assume" that. You seem to have an issue with teamwork. Perhaps since you (strictly) only fly AA your judgement has been clouded.

I was being sarcastic. I find it a bit hypocritical for B6 F/As to be helped by B6 ground crew non-revving, but the arrangement isn't reciprocal. Re AA, I'm not an employee of theirs, never have been. I'm just a satisfied customer and have no idea of what their non-rev passengers are expected to do or not do re cleanup. Whenever I was a non-rev on US, cleanup duties were not part of the package.

I don't have an issue with teamwork at all. I'm just amused by the one-way nature of the arrangement. But honestly, if B6 ground crew don't mind, why should I?

P.S.- I assume your comment re clouded judgement and AA has something to do with the AA and ex-TWA employee issues. Glad I'm not part of that mess!

Ag,

I might be in maintenance, but when I am in the jetway and see some mom or couple waiting for a stroller. I get off my A$$ and go get it for them so they can get on they're way. I am flying to San Diego to get my grandkids and daughter in law for X-mas this weekend, no time to go to the ticket counter to get a boarding pass for the back to back trip. SO I'll trade that pass to help OUR superior folks in San Diego who constantly can turn an F9 flight in 30 minutes easy. I'll be there cleaning the crapper to get back home to Denver with my grandkids! GO TEAM FRONTIER!

You really take the "weirdo award"....go team frontier. So lame. Ok, you go ahead and clean the "crapper"....they were talking about JetBlue, Mister KookAid.

Ag - Assuming, of course, that the nonrev employee is not in uniform, then they are equipped to help in a "back of the house" capacity... what better than to help with some quick clean-up for a faster turn around. But it would not be appropriate for a non-uniformed employee to handle any task that would require face-to-face interaction with customers. So yes, in a way, it is one sided. But that's just the nature of it.
