Every study I have seen done (and the EPA just finished a big one) shows Cabin Air Quality eceedes most office buildings and homes. You get a lot more fresh aiir in a plane than a building.

And remember Doug doesn't view it as toxic fumes....but merely "cabin odor".
Let's see how long that lasts.

The keyword here is "Most" as in not all. As in sometimes the air quality sucks on board and in the office. Frankly I'm not interested in how good the air onboard is "Most" of the time. I'm concerned with what happens when thing DO go wrong.

You see, Doug of course has the workers best interest at heart doesn't he? A few interesting articles

Yup, It's just an odor. True, it's not every flight, but how many flights does it take to do the right thing?

Articles are on MSNB.com but found them via...

aerotoxic.org. If you have been exposed. go to that website and fill out their survey.......

Of course there aren't any problems. Air quality is great, superb. Now, when an oil line or hydraulic line fails, and contaminates the air supply into the cabin, then what happens? Let me know how that air quality is now.

Prime example is the RJ's. Very confined space. Some operaters have it standard procedure to start apu coming out of 10 or 18k feet. There has been quite a few, smoke and smell problems in the RJ's But in those cases, your dealing with smaller chapters of ALPA or AFA, that really don't do much regarding this issue, as it isn't understood, and the employees themselves are younger and less experienced the majority of the time.

Now, you have solutions that could have been implemented to avoid this issue, but it costs X amount of dollars to do so. The bean counters divvy up that X amount of dollars into the amount of people that are affected, and then how many of those people are actually exposed and come forward, and well it's just too much per exposed person to implement.

I have seen first hand in two instances how US handles this with employees/flight crew. And let me tell you, it's down right criminal how these people are treated. One was at the ML level and one was at the express level.

Keep carrying the company water there........yup....

I love the KOOLaide that they serve us... along w/ the blue juice that just overflowed onto my jumpseat yesterday... messed my shoes up real bad... then a lady came back and laid her baby on the floor and changed her
baby.... ? What the F? I told her not to do it... but since we had no changing table on the 737/300 she insisted on it... I did not tell her that there was so much shhhhiiieeeet on that floor she did not want to know.
Then a grown man came back to go to the bathroom in his bare feet.... I asked him..." Do you go to the bathroom at a gas station in with out your shoes on?" His reply was no way...
then my response is ok you are now going to a gas station bathroom... now do you want to proceed? " He went in.... my thoughts then... the Dumb u know what... go ahead in..
then someone came in after that and threw up all over the floor .... along w/ the blue juice..
So come one come all but please wear your shoes.... just like you don't want a blanket cuz I cleaned the blue juice up w/ the nice blue blanket....

It is strange how 2 months ago we had a bunch of flights divert due to fumes and now they have all cleared up and no one has been rushed to the hospital. Either the company has been phenomenally responsive to this issue or....

Cites and statistics, please.

Most of the flights the east does have no reasonable diversion airports other than their destinations. Just diverted to SJU, our original destination. The only crew member who "scorned" the use of the walk-around bottle ended up taking an ambulance to the hospital. Just heard of another in Europe. another in southern Florida. Just this week.

Pull your head out and just try to look around. It just may widen your eyes, if not your thought processes.

Fact is, son, the east has become pretty sensitive to the symptoms of toxins and few will even leave the gate.

Since you profess to know so much, I am certain you heard of the AA FA who just won an undisclosed amount from Boeing for the same issue. I am certain you think that that was some sort of "fantasy" too.

Well, supposedly NASA is interested too. They have a confidential, online reporting system for Aviation Safety. Evidently they have noticed a increase in Air Quality events and are contacting those who have previously filled out the form. If you have been involved in a fume event and have not filled out this form, please do so at http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov

I don't think there is some deep dark conspiracy here. Crews have been sensitized to cabin odors and fumes as of late because of all the issues we had for a while. One airplane was written up and it turned out to be the new rubber matting that was installed in the galleys during overhaul. Plenty of others are the real thing.

Only experience I've had with cabin fumes over the years were VERY apparent, from a nasty odor to my eyes tearing up...went on O2 that time. My question is what happens after one of these episodes. How much cleaning is done in the ductwork. There just HAS to be contamination in them. I know they changed the ductwork on at least one 767. But plenty of others were contaminated by oil or hydraulic fluid and I would think the residual contamination hangs around for a while.

Now THAT'S funny! How do you define a "suitable airport"? One that can dispatch a reporter to the airport before you roll out?
One hour out of SJU from PHL. Where do you go?

The vastness of your ignorance makes the universe seem tiny by comparison.
