The MD 80 wound up in open field, not a river. But everyone walked away from an off airport forced landing. Too lazy to look it up now, there was also the Tupolev that landed on the river near Leningrad in the early sixties. IIRC, The crew had become pre-occupied with a landing gear problem and the plane ran out of fuel. (UA173, anyone?) That ditching, while remarkable, was covered up at the time, in true Soviet fashion. Also the TACA 733 that landed on a levee near MSY in '88 after a dual flameout.

My mentioning these incidents is, of course, in no way meant to take anything from the crew of US1549.
