It just could be that Mr. Bethune is the preferred CEO for the new Delta during his vis-a-vis with the creditors. Might the creditors and the Delta pilot group sign on to this idea if Mr. Bethune were to have his hands on the controls?

Don't think so. Bethune was at CO helm when AWA and CO were "synergistic" partners -- and when CO and AWA had a "falling out" and all partnerships were null and void. Oh, sure, it had to do with ticket prices and philosophies and a whole lot of other things, but the USA Board Of Directors, of which there are still some AWA folks, probably wouldn't let this happen -- long memories. If it were the ONLY way to get the merger through, then they might let it happen if Bethune were a "figure head" officer, with little control, or only for a short period -- keeping Dougie and Scott and team in control, really.

Or, it might be a strategy to keep DL free of LCC. The creditors might be persuaded that Bethune can do for DL what he did for CO. Whether you like him or not, you can't argue with success, and on his watch CO became a resounding success.

Actually, there was a huge personality clash between Bill Franke and Bethune. There was also an incident that occurred while Bethune was travelling on HP metal and the final straw was Parker changing the HP fare structure that lowered prices for business folks travelling on last minute fares.

Hiring him as a merger consultant would be the worst way to support the DL standalone view. If Delta wanted his support give him a ton of money and CEO/Chairman title.

Gordo woud sing, like a canary, any tune the DL board told him too. Like the DL standalone plan is the best since sliceed bread.

Guess I'm not the only one thinking and posting these thoughts.

It could be that the creditors are considering positioning him as a candidate for a slot on the board of directors for Reorganized DL.

In December, the Creditors' Committee applied to employ Spencer Stuart as a search consultant to assist in the search process.

The Committee intends to take a lead role in the identification, interviewing, and selection of qualified candidates (including consideration of DL's existing Board) for the Board of Reorganized DL.

Incident? Was that the incident when he was at the CO gate in PHX and the HP csr staffing the gate did not know who he was and "could care less" who he was? They brought in their own people after that. 🙄

More then that.
