US Airways Group Inc. overcame hurdles in court and at the negotiating table yesterday, giving the Arlington airline more hope that it can emerge from bankruptcy.
The nation's seventh-largest airline reached a tentative agreement with its flight attendants yesterday afternoon that would save it $94 million annually, and it won court approval on a financing deal with General Electric Co. that gives it access to $140 million.

Lakefield Story

Mr. Lakefield couldn't avoid them outside the courthouse as he made his way to a bus that shuttles US Airways managers from its corporate headquarters to the courthouse, and the ugly encounter seemed to unsettle him.
"I'm sorry I even took this job," he shot back.

And the retirees said "Amen"

Maybe Bruce is starting to feel the heat!!!! Can hear it now in the Lakefield household during Christmas.......Gee Grandpa...what do you do for Usairways....Well sonny I screw innocent retiree's!!! Maybe he is starting to realize the big picture and how many lives he is destroying for the mighty dollar!!

Cant these guys exercise a little self control!!!!!
If its not this its the "L" word out of Alabama!!!!!!!!

That would be a good thing.

Yeah, He should let this place fail, and then the retirees and the rest of us will be in a much better situation.

🙄

Nothing but the highest respect for those who have put their time in, and built this place up from nothing. But... No company means an even bigger loss for the retirees.

Well Brucie if you cant talk the talk, you sure cant walk the walk.I am sorry you took the job also.Dont let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.Do you remember about 6yrs ago when Gangreen came to PIT he said he was embarassed when he went to the bank to cash his USAIR paycheck.he took our money and ran just like all the other self centered pieces of shat that are in the Glass Palace.

My family is sweating the loss of health insurance for retirees in a serious way, but i'm proud that my parents would never be as ugly as some of the people on this thread or at the courthouse.

There comes a time when the KY Jelly runs out!!!!!!!! If he can't take the heat then maybe he should LEAVE!

Yeah, I'm sorry Bruce's daddy ever said to his mommy, "I think I just Kayme!"
Oh, my bad. Was that too blunt? Just thought we'd have been better off if he never kayme to USAirways.

Ok...to be the devils advocate.. Lets all the labor groups take additional cuts and we can save the retirees medical benefits etc.....

all in favor...say AYE.............

The solution, who knows. Again it's everyone sucking off the mothers tit. Well the mother is done, she can't support her children anymore. Maybe hit the crack pipe one two many times, Either way she can't do it. So what's the answer????? shut the whole thing down? Lakefield is definately not the reason for all this crap coming down. he's just the one that has to deal with it. BUT the typical worker doesn't see it. IIRC back in the mergers....management then didn't want to deal with labor unrest so they gave whatever labor wanted, well they rode the wave, and the wave has crashed......so lets shut the whole entity down??? No....... and in the same setenace is mgt. asking for more then it should...yup ...d*mn right they are....but what ya gonna do? strike???? strike and it shuts it's down...so what ya gonna do?

Read this quote from the article and do the math.

"Gerald Baltuskonis, 64, and Paul Illian, 62, waved signs in Mr. Lakefield's face and screamed at him to keep in place medical benefits for retirees.
US Airways is trying to save $1.08 billion through concessions from unions, cuts to some medical benefits for retirees and active workers, and by eliminating pensions.
Mr. Baltuskonis, who retired in 1991, and Mr. Illian, who retired in 1993, were part of a group of 22 retirees who traveled from Philadelphia to express their displeasure."

Gerald retired 13 years ago at age 51 and Paul retired 11 years ago also at age 51. Why should I have to work my a$$ off to pay for these guys retirement. What have those two been doing for the last decade? I'm not paying for their lack of responsibility. Screw them. Cancel Their pension. Bruce has every right to be angry with these slackers. Since when does being a mechanic or pilot entitle you to retire at 51? If I retire at 51, at least I will hedge my bets with a second job or a small business. Who is dumb enough to count on an airline for a pension.

If they are mechanics there is a provision to retire at 50 with a REDUCED Pension.

And their pension cannot be cancelled, it can be terminated and taken over by the PBGC.

And no wonder why this place is in such a mess with attitudes like yours.

What US is doing will also terminate your pension and eliminate your healthcare when you retire.

Your attitude is callous and no current group pays for thier retiree healthcare of pension.

And who are you to judge them and tell them to go get screwed?

They could have 30 years plus with US if they started then they were 20.

And if their healthcare is cancelled YOU wil pay for it with your taxes when they can't afford insurance.

Grow a set!

Why should anyone pay for Siegal to retire in his 40s? Oh, that's right, "he had a contract".
