C172 Heating

I used to rent Cessna 172s out of Buttonville, but find the cabin darn cold if you fly them during the winter, even with max heat on.

But I find that the Piper Warriors and Archers supply plenty of heat during the winter. I just don''t know why the C172s lack adequate heating. Any reasons for this?

Does anyone also find this a problem with C172s in general? Or is it just the C172s at Toronto Airways?

The old 172s were ussually cold and had windshield fogging issues at all the wrong times...
But I have been flying the new 172R model (2000+) for the past couple years - they are great and well worth the extra rental cost over the 30+ year old beaters...

Generally I find the C172 heaters adequate to about -15 C, below that they are cool.

make sure the defrost is open and the outside air vents are closed. airplanes make for drafty offices anyhow. not to worry though, if if any of the heaters in those TAL planes actually do a decent job it''s probably from the crack in the manifold.

We always put the winter baffles and blocked the wing vents with tape to prevent our 185''s and 206''s from getting too cold, although with the winter baffles installed, flow through the exhaust muff heater was reduced. Flew them down to -40 with cabin being comfortable!
