can any pilots explain this

I've always wondered about "chemtrails"...we see what looks like thousands more "contrails" around more than i recall growing up...is this just a "conspiracy theory?" or do we actually have this going on..? just curious.

Lol - you can put this right up there with the faked moon landings. There's perfectly logical (not to mention scientific) explanations for the different types of contrails that are supposed to prove the existence of "chemtrails".

kinda thought so, but my friend has been sending tons of videos to me regarding the supposed "proof" and videos of pilots admitting it, so i thought i'd just ask you guys...cuz we have the most awesome pilots around!! thx jim

I always thought of myself as level-headed and sane. But measured against all of those people, like Jim, who see nothing of substance in this issue, I would fall somewhere way out there on the lunatic fringe.

But if that is where I fall, so be it. I will say that I have zero interest in convincing others about it though.

While I appreciate most of Jim's post and I agree with him that there is science to it, something is clearly going on and it can not just be discounted. Not sure if its climatical engineering or what but presumably something with the miltary.

In the interest of full disclosure to both of the above, I'm not an AA pilot or still flying. Just a retired US pilot.

As for the theory of chemtrails, we had one pilot at US that seemed obsessed with them - he posted links to all kinds of web sites and off the wall publications on the US forum of the ALPA web site. I read all that stuff and most of the "proof" was based on the different types of contrails - short, long, intermittent, short or long lived. Those are all absolutely normal in the constantly changing atmosphere, varying both with time and altitude. As for the number of contrails, there are more jets flying now - look at all the RJ's added in the last 5-10 years - and more military flying with everything going on in the Middle East - AF squadrons rotating in and out of the area plus airlift flights.
